What modern roles have women in Africa played in the struggle? Other than Winnie Mandela who else has played a notable role in Africa's struggle against oppression and what role are women playing presently?

Depends on where you are... if you are in Africa, they're helping to carry the economy. Many African women have business rangeing in size from small market booths to corporate hosts for international investors and tourists, or other private firms. In the Caribbean there seem to be a large number of them in politics and local policy. I noticed they have a extremely heavy influence on Caribbean politics(local as well as regional) and business policy/practices. In America they seem to be the driving force economically and politically, very high spirited political activists moreso than the males. I don't know about Europe.

Checkout the anti-globalisation(privatisation) movements across Africa, particularly South Africa.

The enviromental movements again, across Africa particularly Nigeria.

If we do not have an accurate analysis of the problem, we cannot possibly develop a good strategy to resolve it.

DSP is spot on. African women are active in everyway economically.

Politically they arevery active in the South and West. I imagine its not the case in the North because of religion and religious extremist, and the East because of intimidation from the men, but even then in Kenya a woman (forgot her name)got the Nobel Peace Prize for her environmental and political work.

Will search for evidence and post it soon.

Some will hate you, pretend they love you now
Then behind they try to eliminate you
But who Jah bless, no man curse
Thank God, we\'re past the worse
