Just been back from Hammamet in Tunisia and it was great I would reecommend it to anyone. The town itself has great markets where I picked up somegood bargains, went on a safari which was the highlight of the holiday where I travelled in a convoy of jeepsthrough the Sahara desert. We visited a place called Mackmatta (I think that's how you spell it) where people live in cavesand the residents make you mint tea with a peanut in it (lol). Visited the Ampi Theatre which the romans built which was impressive and also the salt lakes to the south on the boarder of Algeria. I also visited the great Mosque of Kairouan, the mosque was founded around the year 670 A.D it is the first mosque in North Africa and the most famous one.
The people in Tunisia are very freindly and that's not just because they think you have money they are a freindly people, it's a holiday destination I would strongly reccommend.
Glad you enjoyed it friend. ButI went to Tunisia last year and couldnt believe the amount of Germans staring at me like they never seen a black man on holiday before.
I keptthinking 'this is Africa, you f**kwit, my manor!'
The locals were very friendly indeed but the holiday was definately spoilt by the friggin Europeans there (the Germans and Italians especially). The French and Brits were ok.
Promised myself the next place I go on holiday will be afro-centric with a capital AFRO!

Been to hammamet myself too....people are great, place is peaceful too. I went to the salt lakes to, and oasis/ Sahara....did you go the caves where they filmed star wars>? cant remember the name, the nomads live there.
Definately like to go back..................cant stand the smell of camel leather though. What did you think of the food, I remember a dish that was fried but had basically raw egg inside........brings back memories, all the men with their hubbly bubbly on the side of the road too......................great place.
The place where they filmed stars wars was that Mackmatta place with the caves, terrible coach ride as it seemed to take for ever from Hammamet. The camels kept trying to kick me off with it's hind legs in the sahara desert everyone was laughing. On the beach we played footabll and volleyball with the Germans kept reminding them of 5-1 England victory but they seemed ok. There are lots of Italians as Scilly is close by when I was walking on the beach one guy asked me if I was a policeman for some reason and I overheard another say "Americano" when in fact i'm British. I met some Irish people and now i'm convinced Irish people are white Jamaicans they are very down to earth. The Tunisian people are all crazy about Bob Marley they say he is the king and they love the British black women they just want to find one to get married to so that they can come to the UK.
There are alot of black people in Tunisia but they are all arabs and there are alot of mixes between the two races. The Tunisians speak Arabic and French but the market traders can speakEnglish, French. German, Spanish, Dutch, Italian andthey even have a go at Jamaican.
The only problem I had was getting into one of the top nightclubs which really peed me off as I thought hey..........i'm in Africa come on man but the people who was going in were white European Holiday makers and dumb door men (who must all from the same planet) wouldn't let me in and none of the muscle bound fools could speak English. I had to do one of my Eddie Murphy skanks to get my way in and once I was in it was that fooly fooly dance/house/trance music where everyone thinks their really cool.
Another downer is the way they try to skank you with your money from market traders to taxi men to the idiot man behind the bar who tried to skank me with my change for my drink. All in All it was a great holiday........
