ok, so u have this good friend i know. hes wanting to resign his job..but im advising he gets something else first rather than join the dole queue.
so, hes worked at this place for 3 yrs..hes one of the most experienced in the office, there have been opening for new positions which would be a step up for him. more money etc. however...this man has been passed over the position 5 times!!! each time him not being successful at the interview.
YET, he has acted in this position for over 7 months, and worked within that office..for 3 yrs. worst of all is on two occasions HE was asked to train the new people!! this is after him gettin feedback from one of the interviwees that he wasnt given the job bcos "he didnt have the experience" yet, he was still sent on the same training that was rqd for the post, so that he still does the work, but doesnt get the pay. lol
the case against his claim for rascim is not so clear cut:
the interview panels have all been different each 5 times though with a few usual suspects.
ALL the people who got given the jobs each time were women, some asian, some black. (the intvw panels have all been white/asian)
so is this rascism, sexism..or maybe he just isnt good enough at interviews. why should that be a factor when hes already doing the damn job more or less?
and isnt this similar to many other places were you have black MENbeing passed over in favor of black women. which makes a claim for rasiscm seem hard to prove?

Men being passed over by women is sexism...He lost his case when other black women were hired over him.
He does have a case for sexism..

Does he work in England? Sounds like the sort of thing English people do.

He should DEMAND to know why he wasn't selected despite fulfilling the role for 7 months. If he had a glowing job appraisal he should throw that at them aswell. Ask for the feedback from the interview notes.

He could have claim for sexism too. Black male managers aint popular in some organisations - the fear factor in white people.

Interviews are normally a screening process to justify NOT promoting people. It depends on what the promotion policy is within the company.

Yes it is, but if they promote the odd one or two then it makes it even harder. The only thing he can do is take his talents elsewhere.

yes he is in england..in london. my advice was for him to seek alternative employemnt and resign. however he should also consider an employment tribunal to lay his case out. it may be something deeper than he even suspects.
