This will eventually get moved to the film forum but I was wondering if the mods would be kind enough to let it breathe in the open forum for an hour or so?
Anyway this is the remake with Denzel.
If this flick does not chill you to the bone,I dont know what will?
Firstly let me say this is the first film ive seen in a very long time where every single actor in it is outstanding, even folks who only have a line or two.
Props to the casting director for Kimberly Elise as Denzels leading lady.
Denzel is just astonishing it is one of his more understated performances but it has so much strength and also he looks soooooooooooo fine,I mean he is like fifty something and I swear I have never seen him look better.
The other leads Meryl Streep and Liev Shrieber are also QUALITY.
I found this movie creepy on so many levels, even the incidental music makes the hair on your arms stand up.
This film is definately a case of art imitating life, the machinations of politics, what goes on behind closed doors that we will never hear about....the list goes on.
Anyway rent it and when you do be sure to check out the extras, especially the bit titled political pundits.
I aint asking for nothing, just open the door and i\'ll take it myself-James Brown.

I noticed after I posted this threadthat there is a synopsis or review of it in the film forum, posted by Coltrane,I think its on page 3 or so,read that first and if still confused,i,ll tell give you my thinned out version of the plot.

hmm, havent seen the manchurain candidate jb, but if i migh t recommend the film 1984. id heard a lot about this film and all the cliches and wasnt really expecting too much, but i have to say it stopped me dead in my tracks.I was walking around in a daze a few days after watchingit.
V.Powerful film despite all these years, had the kind of impact very little cinema seems to have these days.

I can understand the effect 1984 had on you,I read that book as a teenager then saw the film a few years later,I can imagine the daze you were in,its heavy.

I just started re-reading 1984 on -line,it has a whole different resonance now because of the political climate we are in plus the fact that im older .
