With all due respect........

If the white guy had been black and had turned his "not racist" stance to a racist one,he made some valid points.
He said that the blacks had been subjugated,made dependent,by the powers that be.I have I have read similar sentiments on these boards.

He was talking form his ivory tower looking down........but with a slight alteration of the delivery,he could have been a black community leader,angry with the history that bred the situation that unfolded on our tv screens.

I thought the point of the clip was if the reaction or non reaction by the government was due to the origin of the majority of the victims.

My personal opinion is that the magnitude of what happened was not grasped as quickly as it should have been,or the potential for such a disaster understood before hand.....that is where the authorities failed dismally.

There would have to have been a massive task force standing by to have reacted to such a calamity adequately.The fault was in not the slow reaction (picture yourself when faced with a situation like this,stunned moments of inaction before gathering yourself) it was the failure to protect the sea defences properly in the first place.

Speaking cynically, if the government had no consideration for the population,they would have tried to protect the life blood of their nation,the oil installations that were destroyed.

Competence, especially in stressful situations is something required bya Presdident for example or for any other highly ranked official (read: the goverment). To be the calm in the Storm. Elitesoldiers are a prime exampel of this (and their commanders). The president is supposed to be able to act quickly and efficiently in these kind of situations.
