I have observed a disturbing trend with mostly youths of glorifying ignorance. Of late i have been observing the music and culture of young black youths. There is so much ignorance that i feel most of the rascism is fueled by these stupid acts and the media seems to be capitalising on these idiotic acts, and amplifying them for the white viewers to paint a distorted picture of us. For example a lot of these grime/rap/hardcore musicians constantly point to violent lyrics when i know most of these guys have never been in that kind of lifestyle they scream gats guns bust killah me killah that . You see when you aline real life with lyrics you'll end up like the So Solid member who is up for murder charges and he is risking losin his freedom all oover trying to prove his a bad man. Look at cassidy if you know anything about the streets you know to separate life from fantasy you keep your business on the hush. If you try to play a role the streets will get you. I was almost cringing when watching the MTV guns forum people using excuses of poverty to push the ignorance about having a Gun how dumb is that ,its not like if you have a gun you will not starve to death its not like we are in a third world country get a job idiots. And lets say someone has a gun and uses it you will be arrested and charged for murder .My advice stay away from that ignorant crap and you won't have to worry about the whole gun crime thing. Make a real difference get in school all these rap bravado thats tactic for teh white man we are entertaining him its like a minstrel show. Stop all this back man should be gangsta business sometimes i wonder if you really blame them for looking at us like that.

I'm beginning to wonder myself about how distorted that view is actually.Alot black people over 40 have exactly the same view as the white folks where it concerns black youths. I have the view I'm not even close to forty.

In the Name of Allah...

Salaam (Peace) to all.

I find that many of our people have a very real fear of confronting two particular entities: THEMSELVES and the RULING CLASS. Many of us are just too frightened of confronting the CAUSES of our misfortunes, so we attack the EFFECTS.

The CONDITION and BEHAVIOR of OUR Children are EFFECTS. What is the CAUSE?

If a TREE is known by the FRUIT it bears, and Our Children are the "FRUIT", then what does that tell us about the TREE that bore them?

Instead of writing our children off as "ignorant", absolvingourselves from any RESPONSIBILITY to DO something about it, why not go and reach out to some of these "ignorant" youths and TEACH them...MAKE a DIFFERENCE!

RM

Stick-up Kid you really are pathetic. Have a good look at the majority of black youths today, "The MTV Generation".You go through the majority of estates in London today and you will see satalite or cable there. AndI know for a fact they are influenced by what is on MTV Base, Channel U and all that crap, and at the same time they will talk about hardships they have had to go through. Many of the videos are the same thing people singing "n!gg@ this, n!gg@ that, i shot anybody, I'll sex your gal", having 30 people in one scene, Jumping up and down nodding their heads, making noises. Now I ain't no bounty, sellout or whatever you want to call it, but if I was looking at it from different perspective, It looks like I am looking at animals in the zoo.

It seems to me that thoughout all the blood, sweat and tears our ancestors went through to fight oppression, we are running back to it like "we miss it". What kind of shyt is that?? Why do many of us choose to do a career in sports & entertainment, which to me is another form of slavery, you get fined or unplugged from shows if you speak your mind. Why are we not choosing a career where we could shape the future of the planet?

Instead you have punks like Stick Up kid(the name says it all) who accuse a positive person (Phonte) of being a sellout slaveth, whereas e Stick Up Chump would be the first to sign up for a record which would require him totalk trash and get pimped by "The Man" at the same time.

There must come a point (please let there come a point) when we black people stop paying so much heed to what white people think of us.

Thecomments made by Phonteare disturbing for this reason: It is like saying that the racism (i.e. in terms of the negative attitude and treatment) of white people toward black people somehow stems from the way elements within our race behave. If it isn’t the behaviour of black men, it’s the behaviour of black boys. If it’s not the behaviour of black criminals, it’s the behaviour of black something else....and so on and so on.

It is a fallacy, and quite divisive, to hold the attitude that the racism we ALL face (to one degree or another) is prompted, enhanced or driven by the behaviour of an identifiable section of us.

Quite simply, racism was not only inspired, but is nurtured and maintained, by a fear of annihilation on the one hand, and an almost inherent feeling of superiority, on the other. The behaviour of black people, be it good, bad or indifferent, has little or nothing to do with it.

For heaven’s sake you can trace back to the earliest of times when the two races encountered each other, and find evidence that white people were racist toward blacks evenwhen having little experience of us to go on.

The representation of black people, on whatever level, in a white controlled, white influenced media has always been, in the main negative. It is deliberately geared to be negative for the very reason of validating and excusing the treatment of black people in (white) society.

Think about it. How can a group, which represents 4% of the population appear to have a level of influence on, and responsibility for, so much of the negative, anti-social and destructive aspects of the society? Don’t you sometimes get theimpression that if not one single black person committed certain criminal or anti-social acts that those acts would no longer be a plague on society? How can that be so for 4% ofa 100%.

Then we get the divisive aspect of this thing coming into play, where black people themselves begin to harbour frustration, resentment and even dislike for elements within their ranks whom they view as being responsible for adding flames to the already rampant fire of ‘White People’s Racism’. We then end up arguing amongst ourselves, castigating ourselves and condemning ourselves for these things which the white media has portrayed as such a problem and such a cancer on Society and which are down to us.

Now, I am not saying that it is a bad thing, or that we shouldn’t look within our own ranks, to tackle those negative aspects that pull us down as a people. What I resent, however, is when we make ‘the battle against racism’ the reason for this introspection. Do you ask the victim of the bully, to look to himself/herself as to the reason why the bully is abully?

Racism is about the negative way white people feel toward us, and we are apt to get locked into a mode of thinking which says we can minimise it by giving white people less reason to look at us negatively.

Where is the focus there?

Not on improving and uplifting ourselves for the benefit of our collective being.

Not about developing and maintaining a strong cultural foundation with values which adhere to noble and wholesome standards of individual and group conduct.

Not about shaping a way of ‘living upon this earth’ that is in keeping with a civilisation fit to be the ‘gate keeper’ of ‘all life on earth’.

Neither is it about eliminating some of the other cancers that contribute to the destruction of the world in general. Cancers such as ‘abject greed’,or ‘a general disrespect of ‘life’, or‘a total disregard of the importance for living in harmony with the elements that make up our world'. Were our focus for making ourselves and this world better, that would be most admirable. But no, it is about making us more palatable to white people?

Look, I believe in being the best we can....living to the highest personal and collective principles we can.....and encouraging this upon our youth. This should be our endeavour whether we are in the minority in Society or not. However, I think we are in danger of adding to our own demise if we chase after what I believe is the illusive goal of 'white acceptance'.

Respect them and ensure they respect us, yes.....that is as much as I would ask. If they happen to see us a great and wonderful people whom their aspire to, then so be it. Getting them to think that is not the focus for me however........just being the best I can in whatever situation I find myself in, is.

Respect

There are those who feel that the only way to ‘prove their own worth’ is by ‘devaluing the worth of others’. You will often find that a man who is compelled to measure his substance against the substance of another, has little of substance in the first place!
