Was Bill Cosby right to criticise poor black folks who use bad english and lack ambition, or was he picking on an easy, weak target?
Michael Eric Dyson claims he is answering back but regardless of not getting to the point but makes a good speech:

Although Michael Dyson is usually my boy, he was wrong for this one.
I don't agree with everything he's said but I think Bill Cosby has been on target lately with most of his points.
There has to be Black leaders willing to hold the AfroAmerican community accountable for our increasingly immoral anderradicbehavior and that's not being done.
If we had proper leadership with the courage to confrunt these issues and set standards among our youth there would be no need for a Bill Cosby to come out and "air dirty laundry" so to speak.

Yeah, it's good that this dialogue is taking place in public....BUT
Cosby speaks for members o fhis generation who are fed up with the state of our people. Under the radar o fmedia..cosby traveledfrom hood to hood lecturing to people saying the "EXACT same things he said at the meeting"...and he is being welcomed by the hood......people aren't "offended"as much as Dyson would like the press to beleive.
i respect both men...but I tend to agree with Cosby's views and work...
He is in the hood all the time ,donating money to grassroots eforts to straighten out problems...he's not in the ivory tower writing books like professors......he's backing up his talk...

I was very offended and hurtwhen I heard bill cosby's comments. I understand wheres he's comming from a few of his points but i didnt like what he said about so called ghetto names, it sounded as if he was condeming black people and not trying to help make things better.
To believe is to have doubt and no facts but to know is to have facts and no doubt.

The part about "ethnic"names was STUPID......and it's a product of Cosby's age ......and upbringing.....
that was something that could have been left out....

bill cosby is rich. and famous. and respected by white america.
whoop-de-doo.
when he was a struggling black actor back in the day, he didnt have too much to say for himself. and what about the people he grew up ( or the same generation as him)with who turned out less than succesful than he did? would he call them 'losers' too?
in cosbys day, it was easier for a black man to get a job, it was easier to the average black man to buy a house. black people were tight in those days too. stuck together. there was no 'crack' either. there was hope.
he should just shut his mouth on situations that are a damn site more grim than he grew up with.

I think a lot of us who have grown up in America during these last 20 or 30 years have no idea how SEPARATED AfroAmericans are from the rest of humanity.
I'm speaking about morals and behavior.
It's not an accident that we come into conflict with and are basically looked down upon by nearly every ethnic group that comes into this country regardless of race or nationality.
It's because our morality and ethics that govern our behavior have been totally jacked up to the point that immorality and uncivilized behavior is the rule of thumb in many of our communities.
That wasn't the case in Cosby's generation.
In his generation MOST Black people had a since of morality and were decent where as now MOST Black people in America have deep personal issues with respect and love toward one another....especially the youth.
You have to take yourself out of YOUR OWN personal space and observe the AfroAmerican community as a whole.
Don't judge Cosby's words on how the relate to YOUR life, judge them by how it relates to our community as a whole.
Just because YOU can read, use a computer, aren't dealing drugs and aren't committing crimes that doesn't mean others aren't.
The fact is most Black youth ARE failing, and ARE NOT holding up thier end of the bargain. They ARE NOT learning properly in school and ARE sliding down into lawlessness and immorality.
Everyone can see this but us.
The only time we as individuals seem to recognize a problem is when WE PERSONALLY are affected by it.
Cosby is exaggerating and over-reacting...airing dirty laundry...UNTIL WE get jacked or are disrespected by one of these little thugs running up and down the street then we want Farrakan, Cosby, Jesse Jackson and everybody else to either reform them or lock them all up.
We have to learn to check ourselves.
He's right about those funny ass names as well, you should name your children with MEANING.
That's what every civilized person does.
Don't give your children jacked up names like Deonte or LaShondrella not knowing what the hell it means.
Everything a persond does should make sense.
Where is the logic in making up crazy names subjecting your own children to ridicule for thier lives to come?

What was Cosby saying back in the 60s and 70s.
I remember him from I SPY but I don't remember him saying sh!t.
Now that he is old and superrich and not worried about Whitey cutting off his income he wants to speak out. Now admittedly, I agree with some of what he is saying. I am certainly not impressed after these problems have been festering for decades and he's just noticing.

We have gotten to used to the "Woe is Us" and "Defeatism mentality" that anything other than this is wrong. We need to take responsibility for out actions. I am not Muslim, but I listened to Farakan push this particular message yesterday.
Its something I've been saying for years. Its what Cosby said.........

I'm the man formerly known as "Ahmaad".
G Mahogany
blkrainbowfroBut am I right?
It's almost as if I can meet a woman and tell by her name what type of background she comes from and what type of attitude to expect.
If your name is Delores Jackson, I know you're around 45 and have trouble paying your rent.
Holly-Mae Worthy you're over 60, from the country, and can cook.
If your name is Rochelle Davis, I don't know how old you are but I know you'll be raising helly every Saturday night.
I know what to expect from you if you call yourself Cinammon.
A person's name seems to have a tremendous effect on thier personality.

Peace Ahmaad,
LOL...its funny and I can laugh about it. But Buddhist believe what one names their child is very important. People give children's name cuz it sounds NICE without a second thought that the traits one might carry with that name.
