Anyone here been a victim of rape , or had a member of there family been a victim of rape?
Were you reluctant to come forward and report what happened to you or discuss with other people?
If so could you explain to me why?

was it possible you didnt report because you were ashamed.
because in someway you thought it might have been your fault for putting yourself in that situation.
how would you have felt if a 'friend' had reported it to the police or to your other friends without 'your' consent?

A good friend of mine was gang raped at a party. She is a tiny woman and was obviously too inebriated to act with good judgement.
She tortured herself psychologically before coming forward. She felt it was her fault for drinking too much and putting herself in that situation. Self-blame and deep, deep shame kept her in a depression for days after.
When she did come forward, they treated her like she stripped naked and begged them to rape her. Honestly, she was treated as badly as the frat boys, except that they left with pride at knowing they had a piece of gangbang. She was also harassed whenever she encountered friends of the men. The men NEVER came to justice.
I can honestly say that she has some big psych issues as a result and even thought she was "lesbian" at one point. I knew she was too damn confused for her own good.
I can see all too clearly whygrown women are too scared to come forward. Imagine a poor 14 year old and her additional circumstances?

It's happened alot more than reported, I gaurantee, everyone knows at least 2 people that have been raped, but may not know that it has happened to them. Alot of victims hide this. Some who aren't as strong as others can become very damaged and it affect their life socially and emotionally.It's happend to alot of females that I know, even 2 of my ex's.

I'm not a Tom Wolfe fan... your point is what exactly? Considering the topic, tread very carefully.

@Nativeson/DSP.
I would guess that rape is far more common than many would think because I know when I think quickly to things I know or have been involved in and we are not talking any scientific study I would think the numbers of women who have had men forcefully impose themselves on women is too high for comfort.
In fact the thing that makes me ill is that many of these men will flip if you call their actions rape, because it obviously did not resemble what we know from the movies. But rape is rape.
