Has anyone seen the latest safe sex advert with the young black girl who barely looks 16 and her 'love' interest, a white boy looking to 'get laid'?

Why is black love now the abnorm on television andwhy areyounger people being bombarded withmessages on what shouldnow be thenorm?

Can you think of any black couples on TV soaps andadvertsaside from Patrick and Yolande in Eastenders?

I haven't seen the advert, but to tell you the truth, black people are odd. I wonder why we are se desperate to be on TV. I've seen some bizzare situations. Wonder why Chinese, Arabs etc are as intereseted.

Some people may think I exaggerate, but I think some people are so cheap, and when you see what they're doing, you wonder why we're supposed to thing it's a big deal.

It is something I've noticed though. From the amount of black folks in the background of adverts, to safe sex or abstinance posters.

We're a cheap set of people.

I both agree and disagree with your post. On one hand, yes... cheap Africans are plenty... meaning, it amazes me that so many African/Black models and actors agree to portray characters that are negative and/or stereotypical. There is complicity out there, be it desperation for acting work, lack of positive scripts or plain old media hungerand hunger for acceptance.

On the other hand, one of the greatest means of marginalising us in the past was to completely ignore us. I want to see people like myself on televisionand listen to their testaments of life, love and racism.I definitely want to see African characters in soaps, comedy and dramas. I simply wish the images out there weren't monochromatic, either completely assimilated or criminally self-hating.

Until we create these images ourselves with our own productions, we are destined to be depicted through European eyes. We have some good film-making out there, but television is still in the Dark Ages.

This is basically it. Never look for validation at the hands of outsiders. If we owned several television stations, the depiction of realistic Asian, latino, etc life wouldn't be accurate....WHY? Because people behind the scenes wouldn't be concerned primarily with doing that.

why would anyone think that the peopel currently running mass media are concerned with the lives of people who don't look like them.
