Racial demographics of the United States

I can't seem to find an accurate enough Racial statistics of America one that would account for the Mixed Race population of African Americans and Euro Americans and Mixed Race population of "Latino".

I believe that the population of African Americans to be a little higher than 12.5/13% and the population of Euro Americans much more less 80% which quite a lot of statistics say and slightly less than 70%.

Most Statistics lump Latino's together which consist of mixed races (Africans/Amerindian/Europeans) Mexicans, Puerto Rican, Cuban, and Colombian.

I'm trying to establish how much potential power (political) African Americans have.

You can't gauge potential power thru straight demographics.

Go to the US ccensus Bureu website for info on the 2000 Census for raw data.

You are going to have problems with this because hispanics are not a race but a ethnicity in the United States

Hispanics; could be black, white, African mixed with another mix, American Indian mixed with white,...................When they say, Hispanics will over-take the blacks in the US, they also forget to mention, one can be hispanic, and say they are other groups..............Not one race.......

Buu, I agree w/Burning Spear's statement.

Also, take a look at the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies' website. Click on 'Data Bank' at left. They use Census stats but compile data in such a way as to address issues concerning the Black community and other communities of color. Perhaps they have already pulled some data togetherthat can address some aspect of what you are looking for--"voter participation," "political leaders"? At any rate, you can always drop them a line via e-mail for further guidance.

In addition, you have to take into account the illegal aliens. specifically the Mexican illegals, the unofficial estimates that are mentioned are somewhere between 10 to 15 million. Where the media comes up with that number is a mystery to me.

I know that in Texas, the border patrol says they catch about 1000 illegal aliens per month but they estimate that5000 to 8000get through simply because there are not enough agents protecting the Texas Mexico border.

12% is correct....our demographicswill decline however as the population increases from immigration - Largely Asian and Latin american.

Many "black" americans are mixed race but they are included in the "black" ethinicty designation. Latino can be any race or a mix of races. Latin american immigrantsare largely white and mestizo.

Is it me, or are white people a minority in America. From what i see in the media, and from what I saw when I once went to Florida, white people seem to only make up 50%ish of the country. Can someone clarify that for me.

Also black people probably make up more then 12% of the population because think of the prison population and those who simply do not fill out the forms. Also the black population will probably stay quite high because isn't there a huge influx of immigrants from Africa???? So many questions there, can someone who has spent a lot of time, or lives in America answer them for me.thanks

There is no huge African influx in the US. I think the black population is around 13%.

Trustme whites are the majority by far in the US.You can't judge a nation by walking around in Miami.The nation is massive with white in suprier numbers in the Southwest,Rockies,Midwest and northeast.

One fact that is overlooked is that the majority of white people do not live in the larger urban areas. They tend to live in smaller towns or what some would call the country.
