Who remembers there first time on black net?
Do you remember the first topic you ever posted? did it cause controversy? Were you surprised to find alot of people agreeing with feelings you had had for a long time? Did the response almost put you off coming back?!?! or were you encouraged to take part more? Maybe you got no response at all!
Do you remember the first topic you ever responded to? were you agreeing or disagreeing? If the latter, did you fell nervous (as a newbie) to disagree with an establihed member?
Do you remember the first topic you felt strongly about, but did not respond to?
Did you make a "friend" or an "enemy" that first time?!?! You do not have to name names!!
Not trying to re open old beefs/wounds (or start new ones!) just trying to find out what everybodys first time at BN was like.
And i know someone will ask, "what about you MB?" !! I remember the first topic i posted (created) was peoples opinions on single women adopting. I got more responses than i thought i would and it did cause some controversy. On the plus side i discovered a fellow Bone fan! On the negative side i discovered some people with some very differing views. I don't remember my first response to a topic. I think there were a few i wanted to respond to, but someone else had already said what i wanted to say, so i didn't bother.
So tell me about your first timeniceone.gif

Great thread.
I dont remember much to be honest. I just remember becoming a member because of Temporary Username's posts...and I was a lot more mouthy before I was a mod. Being a mod made me post less lol (dont know why really)

Hi MB! I'd been a lurker for quite sometime before I decided to join up and post. I thinkmy first postwas a safe andcomfortable one. It was an introduce yourself thread. My second post was one about over rated men, I posted a reply to some one and got quite a warm response. In another thread which I thought was quite light hearted I got a response from some fool who had a history of pissing people off (f**king loser!)mad-moonie I often find as you said before, thatI've wanted to reply to a thread but someonehassaid the samething I would have said. Sometimes my post's are ignored but that does'nt put me off posting again.
I tend not to post very often but read alot of the threads and it is quite easy to tell who is quite clearly trying to be controversial or pettyin order to get a response or those that have established friendships. In this forum I found it quite difficult to get to know people but that'sprobably because I don't post often enough, compared to other forums where I have got to know some great people.
I\'m livin\' my life like it\'s golden

Ok MB I'll play along...
My first post I asked somebody for the ISBN number of a book about black scientists they reviewed. The person told me and I bought the book.

My first time on BN was way WAYYY back in 1998!! An old work colleague put me on to this site. I was just a likkle yoot treating it as a joke ting by creating different aliases for a laugh....then I started to take it a bit more serious and posted under names like NUBIAN, Melanin and my current 'Prince Hakeem'.
Been here for nearly a whole decade...I need to get a life lol.

To be honest, I had frequented a few Black (American) sites and they seemed a bit too coonish...not that all of them are. I just couldn't relate to many of the people (especially spiritually)and I felt out of place until reading some of the intelligent posts by many of the people here on Blacknet. Not that I totally agreed with people, but it just seems like Blacknet had more of a population of free-thinkers, and I find that refreshing amongst our African people. Too often we are bombarded by our people who are caught up in Western culture's many stigmatisms (materialism, n---- syndrome, religious brainwashing, and so forth). Is great to come to a website where I feel that Ican actually learn from the discussions taking place.
Anyhow, I think the first person I got into with was Omaar. He is certainly a progressivebrother, but we certainly bumped heads on other issues because he is Muslim and I certainly am not. Another person was (I think) tuckerreedon the significance of the Confederate Flag. I couldn't believe that some Black people were defending it.
Anyhow, I could go on and on about my impressions of the many characters on Blacknet. All I can say is that I am glad I am here...
