Teens celebrated stabbing like they'd scored a goal Jan 18 2006
TWO bored teenagers who stabbed a man for fun then celebrated "like two footballers scoring a goal" were jailed on Monday.
Jonathan Emmans, 20, was left with blood pouring from a gaping knife wound in his buttock as his attackers collected a takeaway meal just yards away.
The 14-year-old knife-wielding thug was caught on CCTV at the eatery performing an action replay of the unprovoked stabbing to his 16-year-old accomplice.
Giving evidence from behind a screen during the older boy's trial, Mr Emmans, from Forest Hill, had broken down in tears when shown photographs of his horrific injury. The Peckham teenagers can't be named for legal reasons.
Judge Quentin Campbell sent both thugs to a young offender institution and described their actions as "serious and disturbing".
The 16-year-old, who is now 17, denied the attack, but was convicted at Inner London Crown Court and was sentenced to three years and eight months. The younger thug, now 15, received a two-and-a-half-year term after he admitted the stabbing.
Mr Emmans was with friends on his way home from a party on the South Bank in the early hours of June 12 when he was set upon by the thugs in Lordship Lane, East Dulwich.
The court heard the older boy came out of the takeaway followed by the younger teenager who was armed with a silver-handled lock knife.
Judge Campbell told the pair: "You two were in a chicken restaurant. You ordered your meal and no doubt the person was going off to prepare the meal.
"You were bored waiting and you then left the restaurant. "Because you were bored and because you thought you would show off by being violent, you [the 16-year-old] tried to pick a fight.
"Mr Emmans did absolutely nothing and the fight developed on your part, not his. "You stabbed him viciously in the buttock, causing very substantial injuries. "A very disturbing part of this case is the stabbing wasn't recorded on CCTV, but what was recorded was the two of you coming back to pick up your chicken and chips. "You were very pleased with each other. "You were slapping hands in congratulation like two footballers following the scoring of a goal." The 16-year-old denied one count of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm while the 14-year-old admitted the offence.
