Can I just add my two penneth even though i'm British am somewhat Yankified given my time there,anyway....................
I remember him giving a speech at the last Democratic convention and he tore it up!,stole the show was so dynamic and then when he finished and his wife and kids came on stage I think I did actually shed a tear.
Not long after this I wrote a letter to my Mum explaining what id just seen and had she seen him etc ,anyway I went on to say that I feared for his life, there was no way that he would ever be able to flex his political muscles or wield any real power and the moment he got too high profile he would be assassinated.
He is a brilliant, visionary man,but unfortunately he is swimming with too many sharks and they will nyam him up quicker than you can say JAWS!

In this week, in my"U Studentliberals" we've already phoned him twice and sent him an e-mail, withMN,Wis, Iowa, N/SD,Senators on Alito filibuster.
First of all, If I lived in Washington, I would definitely be making weekly trips to Senatorial office of Barackin person. His lifejust amazes me. The guy is loved by all in his state, and well respected. As a liberal, I agreemost of his policies, andwhatI have seen of him, itshows me hispassion for justice, rightous indignation and frank telling the truth, with that alone should be enoughif he runs for president. If Demsdon't win in 08, he will run, take my word.
Most of my news comes from the internet, and he's loved.

It bothers me because up until the election I NEVER heard of him. It was like someone waved a magic wand and he appeared with an autobiography and people fell in love with him.
I'm still trying to figure him out. I'm actually more comfortable with Sharpton due to the years upon year of antics, failures and triumphs. Not to compare apples and oranges, never that.
I guess it would only be fair to judge him after his first term in office.

Untill recently, for some reason I was always under the impression that this guy was republican. Rice, Powell, that justice, Powell all republicans.
With all the support democrats have from African-Americans, why aren't there more prominent African-American democrats?

@ Tay:
The problem is Districting. they do this thing called Gerrymandering, If a District has too many of one interest (Read Blacks) they redraw the district as to take away the voter power. So what you find is Blacks vying for White votes, people considered non white friendly are eliminated in the primaries or never make the ballot in the first place.
This is what struck me about Obama. He was elected by whites and Blacks but people (notable candidates) basically stood down in vying for that seat, his competitor was Alan Keyes (R) a Black intellectual from Maryland and Local Joke!

First let me say what's up brother Masai?
Barack actaully did have a formidable opponent. It was Jack Ryan. He was everthing and more that the Republicans wanted. He was their goldenboy. Butthe chickens came home to roost. His divorce records to Actress Jeri Lynn Ryan (Star Trek Voyager and Boston Public) were opened. The man was a freak. One of her reasons for leaving him was that he liked to take her tosex clubs and wanted her to have sex with him and other peoplepublically.
The records specifically mentioned clubs inNew Orleans, Paris And New York. The funny thing is at first he would not get out of the race and many Republicans on Capitolhill openly supported him afterhisbones fell out of the closet.
By the time he did step down it was too late for them to find anyone from Illinois who could make up the ground on Obama in time so in their infinite wisdom they inlisted Alan Keyes because he was a recognizable face. The problem was all he did was make personal attacks on Barack andneverdebated issues. Barackwas at home, the people of Illinois were very familiar with him as a result of his communityinvolvement for years.
The reason so many white people as well as black people support him is due to his heritage which he usesfor his political advantage. His father was Kenyan his mother was white. They divorced and his mother remarried an Indonesian man. He grew up in Hawaii and Indonesia.

He is limited by the game of politics. He's one senator, who can only do so much - especially since he is a member of the losing party. He speaks forcefully and seems genuine, but I'm not expecting any "Superman" moves by him. I just wish him the best blk2cheers2and hope that he is able to do a few positive things while he is a senator.
