Whats your favourite Black food?

At the moment I'm sittin here eating mine and its delicious: fried plantain with stew and fried fish. Its a variation of "Bole" from Bayelsa state in nigeria.

Whats do you like to eat from your country or someone elses?

Ackee and salfish with rice and dumplins is the best food that was ever invented. That ish is worth fighting over, it tastes too good. Nobody canmake it like my mum but unfortunately she recently went back home to Jamaica.

fried and pressed plantain......



the REAL kind, not the sweet version..... is one haitian dish that i really enjoy...



from what I understand, only Cubans and Haitians eat the plantain that is not sweet...... most of the other black people I've met eat the sweet ones..

Nigerian ppl eat unripe plantain too - in porridge as well as roasted.

I always wondered excatly what ackee is. Does it hav an english name?

So if ackee is saltfish, why is it called ackee AND saltfish??

My favorites are Peanutbutter stew and rice. Dried okra stew with plantain futu (foofoo), fried plantain dipped in fish, pepper, and oil paste, and my all time favorite Atcheke (shredded manioc or cassava, looks kind of like couscous) mixed withr, salt, olive oil and smothered with grilled fish and fresh tomatoes, onions, and habanero pepper. I also like yam with seasoned fish paste.

I love sadza = maize meal, derere = okra & mazondo = cowsfeet. I can get the sadza & derere here but have not found mazondoanywhere! Anyway, I only like mazondo how my dad makes them, in a three legged pot, over the fire, cooked slowly for approximately 24 hours (can't find an emocion for yummy)so they probably won't taste as good even if I find them here!!
