The extension cord, belt, slippers.....lol the way our parents dealt with us back in the day was borderline child abuse.

We were hit with a belt...which we had to fetch (a la Eddie Murphy).
My Mum threw a knife at me once - it missed.
Dad never hit me, but I remember him throwing my brother onto the settee once.
I remember being hit on the back of my head and my teeth going into my knee. That hurt like hell.

Oh my god that is some scary stuff, gettinga knife thrown at you, hit by your dad, I am not surprised you dont want to remember it. My parents never hit me in any way-thank god. I think it is dreadful for parents to abuse their children like this.

Hitting is not always abuse... My mom hit me twice and both times I deserved it and I knew it. Dad 'hit' me once but that was coz I disrespected my mom. I put the inverted commas on hit coz it was more like a chat - I was 15 and after Dadslashedme (don't know if that the right word coz I remember thinking 'thank God for jeans' coz itwas notvery sore) a couple of times with the belt, he just sat down and spoke to me about what I'd done wrong. I guess I showed him I was mature enough to realise my mistake and I apologised to Mom.

I understand what you are saying as it does to an extentdepend on howthe child feels about the punishment they recieve and I mean no disresepct to your parents and the way you have been brought up. However I do not think that it is ever right to intentionally, physically, hurt a child. It also gives out the wrong message to that childthat violence is the right way to deal with a problem.

I can assure you that my parents also took the view that I was living under their roof and therefore had to follow their rules yet they managed to enforce those rules without having to resort to violence. Neither did they allow me to swear at them, have sex under their roof or do drugs, yet again these rules were enforce by means other than violence. I am sure that my parentsrequiredexactly the same standards of behaviour from me as yours did but they did not hit me to get it. I think violence against children or (a whopp ass as you describe it)is disgusting and it is abuse, people go to prison forhitiign childrenand it is notacceptable simply because it is your own child.

Also please don't categorise me with the types of lower class people who do behave in the way that you describe (swearing and bad behaviour) neither I nor my family are anything like that!
