everyone i meet says the same ole crap "i am different" but through my experiences and observations......most females seem to be alike....andmost males seem to be alike...very few are actually different from the rest or have that 'it' quality that makes another smile at the thought of them....
so my question is what makesyou different? what sets you apart from the rest? do you have any extraordinary qualities that would set you apart from the next male/female?
does it even matter? or is it ok with you that you may be just another jane/john doe?blkwonder

I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT I AM DIFFERENT AS WELL. FIRST OF ALL, I ALWAYS FELT DIFFERENT, THEREFORE IT WAS NO SURPRISE TO ME THAT PEOPLE WOULD SAY THIS TO ME. I WELCOME IT. I REALLY DONT LIKE BEING LIKE EVERYONE ELSE.

My cheapness, fussiness, grouchiness and annoying practicality. By the last I mean my tendancy to point out "but what's the point of that? it's dumb!" and annoy people around me who were intent of doing something stupid...

Salaam (Peace) to all...
Since there are no two people who are exactly alike, then we are ALL "different". Each and every one of us is absolutely Unique, so a person saying "I'm different", in one sense, is stating the obvious...and is usually just trying to be interesting.
On the other hand, there are tendencies among human beings to group together along certain lines, and when a person doesn't seem to fit in any of the usual groups we encounter, that person will strike us as "different"...but even THAT is an illusion. Not because that person is NOT different...he/she is. But if we were looking closely enough at each and every person we interact with, we would find that each and every one is "different".
So...what makes ME different? The fact that I exist in a Universe in which no two things are ever exactly alike. In that regard, I guess I'm the same as everybody else....lol.
So, I guess in order to be truly "different", I would have to be exactly the "same" as someone else...lol.
How ironic...lol.

Well, I think the fact that I'm borderline antisocial, is what makes me different. I've always been a bit of a loner. I don't like crowds and so have always just kept a small selective group of close friends. I never had any desire to be the most popular person in high school or elementary school so I never felt any pressure to conform to anyone's standards. I went to the mall by myself when most of my friends wouldn't dare to be seen there alone during that stage of their lives. I'll go to the theatreand watcha movieby myself if the people around me are not interested in seeing it. And up till this day my view of a good new year's eve is reading a really goodbook while in my bed and drinking a glass ofChardonnay.
Because of this tendency I've developed adisliketowards clingy people. I spentmost of my first two years of university trying to hide from my roommate in first year becausesheinsisted on spending every waking moment with me.I also had many arguments with my ex.due this insistence that we do any and everything together.
Gosh,if I keep this upI'll end up in smallcottage somewhere inno-man's landwith no one but mycomputer, books and wine. LOL.The sad thing is that Ithink I'd actually enjoy it.

The only thing the world really enforces is conformity. If you really do think different and act different then you will pay for it.

Blacks are terrible in this respect because perhaps we have been under siege for so long and some kind of unityhas beenvery important to our survival.

Bluehoney - Interesting topic. I like to believe we are all different in some way or another but what I find particularly applicable to me is the ability to detach emotion from a given situation. As such i find emotionally rooted people and others incapbale of relatng to this often refer to me as cold or mistakenly relate it to cutting off your nose to spite your face.
Because of this mentality I find i can put myself into the shoes of others. i can see why a rapist can rape and why a murderer can commit murder, why some people will fall apart doing a day in prison and why others can do thirty years and walk out like nothing has happened.
If you have ever seen the film The Usual Suspects then in crunch situationsfar from cutting off their noseit'ssome keyser Soza business going on. In the extreme these people willslay theirown family rather than let someone hold that familyagainstthem as ransom. - though I don't think I'm that bad....or good depending on your persuassion

Most people do not think, they follow. These peopleare forced into situations where they have to react (pay bills, defer to unjust authorities, societies etc).
Every youth, has unique talents and viewpoints but inthe main, these are later on consumed by the reality of society’s material conditions.
For example, a great man may have a great, profound talent as an Artist, but due to racism, may never get the opportunity to realise his potential. His disappointment, will allow him to relate to many, (the mass) who have had their youthful energies, perverted or frustrated by "reality". This lack of opportunity is usually justified by the dominant ideology (eg. “You’re black, its quite normal, don’t worry about it) which the mass internalise and begin to justify or believe.
Leaders have to think abstractly and create situations or environmentsthat at present do not exist.
The critique of a leader, allows them to create solutions that once applied, manifest into something real; encouraging more action: success breeding success.
This inspires them to continue on their path, further separating them from others. This kind of difference is real and unambiguous.
These kinds of people normally negatively provoke others, stuck in their more youthful, naive analysis of society, now supported by powerful propaganda machines. This is not a problem to the confident, well grounded individual who expects and understands this conflict.
Often, this skill that later becomes genius ( a profoundly marked individual skill or competency), is not understood by its possessors; the constant conflict and attacks wear them down, and they see their genius as the problem; giving up and joining the mass, stuck in their impotent analysis.
If they realise, thatwhat causes their conflict,is their genius, they are less likely to trade it in; dumbing down themselves just to fit in and suffer.
In addition, insanity also makes people unambiguously different.
History is a people's memory, and without a memory, man is demoted to the lower animals

Breadfruit - interesting. I would disagree on one point, fitting in to suffer - it's more the case of fitting in not to suffer. But a good read nonetheless.
Not eating fanny seems to make me different
