Question to Kunjufu and the rest of the Moderation team

I think you guy's have been doing this board since 1997 that's a long time I guess next year is your anniversary. What is your motivation for spending so much time maintaining this board, so much time taken out of your lives when you could be doing other things what is the purpose? and nowthat it is2006 has it allbeen worthwhile?

UrbanChaos: Ok some clarification first.....Although I've personally been here on BNV since 1996.(this year is officially my tenth year here), I have only been a Moderator since 2003. Before that there were no Moderators on BNV... The Moderation team was put in place in response to the Racists who virtually camped in our home and almost destroyed it...

The other members can answer your question for themselves...However for me I need to make something clear.. I think people ASSume that BNV is all I do..actually I am also involved in Active groups within my proffession to attack discrimination, I am with my collegues looking to expand the business of that group to the next level in delivering training, and representation opportunities within the proffesion in which i work...this will be a year long programme...

BNV is a seperate part of my life that I do alongside my current career, Education and the Aforementioned group..Each one of us volunteer our time freely and not for profit..we make no money from BNV, whatsoever...

So the Question is why..Why do I do that..why would i spend somuch time maintaining this...well its quite simple..BNV was the first and is an important interactive newsforum..where we can openly discuss critical issues pertaining to US... There is noting like it anywhere else..

Think where else would we get the opprtunity to converse with our cousins in all parts of Africa, American, Europe and the Carribean... Where else would you have the opportunity to argue, agree and critique news stories in an indepth way without the CONTROL of the White European Media... I think it is this diversity and portal into the life of Africans everywhere that makes being here enjoyable, frustrating and facisinating all at the same time...

We can discuss trivial, TV, Politics and History all on the same board..this is better than TV, and most of all.. I've met, argued and had conversations with some great people....that's why I'm here and why I;ve stayed for so long...however there will come a time quite soon I suspect that I will one day have to move on...

What is your defintion on Racist? Do you mean people that are too black national or white people coming on here to mess things up?

Also, what groups are you involved with?

Do you mean move on from moderating or move on from blacknet all together? If the latter is the case that would be a great loss to BNV, there are a couple of great mods here, would be a shame to lose any of you......

I mean move on BNV all together... in the end Miss Nellia we all have to recognise when our time has come and move onto other things..that time will come for me I'm sure.....However when it does I'm sure BNV will go from strenght to strenght...I don't think anyone person can or should be bigger than BNV.....BUT i stress I'm not going anywhere for now..I'm just talking ok..

Kunj even if you move on to new responsibilities you will always be near the net, so BN is for life right?

I like youguys, but sometimes I just wish you would all relax and stop doing this

DSP; one comments to your post...the door swings both ways...so therefore Villager should also exercise some degree of personal responsibility and common sensein everything they post...that way we won't have to edit it....simple!!
