@drunk...
the matrix especially part one is.. deep...
ask 10 people... what is the matrix?.. a few... mutual friends of ours failed that questions (you know who u are)
...

mmmm haggler was great... an sugar... better "boxers" than tyson.... for sure...
but tyson is a fighter.... a powerful figher.. he destroyed a looooot of better boxers than him purely on his hittin power.... simple because anywhere he hit u... hurt...

They don't read sci fi as obsessively as I have since I was a kid and to this day. I know the gems from the mediocre. The few who do don't rate Matrix as highly as other concepts in the genre.

H-Town had better tunes than Jodeci

Silk were better singers than all both those groups and "tonight" was a better album than any of H-towns or Jodecis albums.

There I said it... bring it on

im a sci fi man myself.....

as u know...

what makes matrix diffrent from.. lets say star wars... is... starwars is set purely in fantasy... what make martix to me more relevant is that it ties into the world as we know it... not just some fantasy ... a la star wars.... etc... because in a sense we do live in a matrix....

...
and on the latavia thing... not many people i know liked her... everyone was on beyonce beyonce beyonce... i was like the only one.. among my peers even contemplatin latavia.. though a few did default to kelly.(ugh)

All the girls I know liked Kelly, the dudes liked Latavia. Beyonce ain't really start looking good for a while after they started.

That's why you like Matrix? Because you're comparing it to STAR WARS!! Star wars is exactly what you said it is. FANTASY. It doesn't belong in the sci-fi genre. It's about knights and princesses, fancy creaturesand magical powers... it just happens to be set in space. That's not sci-fi man.

Sci-fi should explore some level of hard science and draw you in. You should leave it having learned something. It should explore the human condition and reaction to unusual stimuli and involve obviously a strong level of science. Fanciful science or probable science but at least make a serious attempt to explain it and involve it in the story. OK matrix did do these things but in no way does it sit with the giants of the genre dude

The Matrix was based based on other films. Man... there an Anime with the bikes and stuff. Forget its name. There are also other films with the same concept. AKIRA or something, Ghost in the shell. etc.

Good sci fi though no doubt about it, not too hard to clock. I used to be into Aliens Vs Predator sci fi books and SAS stuff.

Who knows about Warhammer? Jeeeez, maybe i should keep myself quite on that one.

If I knew it was going to end with Neo being brought back to life with a kisslike sleeping frigging beauty I would have never spent my money. That was one of the worst movie endings I've ever seen in my life, it totally ruined what could have been a decent film.

That's not sci-fi, it's romantic fantasy bullshit!

Aliens was a great Sci-fi movie. It is actually in terms of the science involved and the frightening idea, military behind it and so on and the idea of male birth in a such a visually horrific way. An Octavia Butler story "bloodchild" is kinda simmilar ifeven MORE nasty *shudders*.

I was actually talking more of literature than movies though.

@dsp I tend not to include part 3 in any discussion about the matrix because it was bad….
Very bad…

…@drunk…
sorry man but aliens cant be compared to matrix…
aliens is run of the mill predicatable… same as predator…. No new ground….
..
ok the kiss brining back to live in matrix… was over the top… but that aside… and een included.. the matrix was groundbreaking…
I aw that movie at the cinema by accident… after I swapped the tickets I had originally bought for some snoop dog movie for the matrix… and after watchin it I was blown away…
Aliens is… a---ight…just that.. brought nuttin special or new

I have absolutely no problem with you @ Prince Hakeem

Infact I will edit my post to reflect that.

If I have made digs they are certainly not meant to be personal.
I only have a problem with 1 man in the village and its certainly not you

Halle Berry is over rated as an actress.

When talking about the Tina Turner movie, the Ike Turner role is forgotten. BOTH Angela Bassett and Lawrence Fishburne performed brilliantly in 'What's Love Got To Do With It'. Lawrence really made you hate his character.

I preferred Latoyah and Lataviah in the original DC line up. Kelly looked like a geek with braces (does anyone remember the long poodle-like weave they gave her during the bridge of the 'no no no' video???) and Beyonce was attractive, but nothing special.
