I AM IN THE STATES AND I HAVE EXPERIENCED SEVERAL BLACK PEOPLE FROM BRITIAN AND I NOTICED HOW THEY FEEL ABOUT BLACK AMERICAN PEOPLE. THEY FEEL THAT ALL WE WANT TO DO IS SIT AROUND ON GOVERNEMENT ASSISTANCE AND DO NOTHING WITH OUR LIVES. THEY DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY WE BLACK AMERICANS DON'T OWN MUCH PROPERTY ,HERE. ALL THEY SEE ARE IMAGES ON TV THAT WE ARE ONLY ENTERTAINERS AND SPORTS FIGURES.
YOU HAVE NO IDEA THE LAWSTHAT WERE PASSED THATWAS A ROAD BLOCK IN OUR BASIC WAYS OF LIVING.
I DON'T THINK THE BRITONS ARE FULLY AWARE OF AFRICAN-AMERICAN HISTORY-NOT FROM THE TEXTBOOKS, BUT FROM THE PEOPLE WHO LIVED IT. I HAD ONE FRIEND WHO BRAGGED ABOUT BEING A GUARD AT BUCCINGHAM PALACE AND NOW HE LIVES IN CONNETICUIT, HERE IN THE USA. HE COMPLAIMED ABOUT HOW THE SCHOOL SYSTEM IS HORRIBLE HERE AND HE ASSUMED I LIVED IN THE GHETTO AND THAT I WAS LIVING A POVERTY STRICKEN LIFE.I HAD TO GET RID OF HIM BECAUSE HE REFUSED TO SEE ANYTHING OTHERWISE. IF HE HATED THIS COUNTRY SO BAD, THEN WHY IS HE HERE?? I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW EVERYONE PRAISES QUEEN ELIZABETH, YET I UNDERSTAND THE WAY BLACKPEOPLE LIVING THERE ARE NOT THAT BETTER THAN IT IS HERE IN THE STATES.
WHY DO MOST OF YOU, BECAUSE I KNOW THERE ARE SOME WHO HAVE KNOWLEDGE OF SELF, FEEL THAT YOU HAVE TO LOOK DOWN ON BLACK AMERICANS WHEN WE SHARE OUR BLOODLINE?? WERE YOU THAT TRICKED AND HOODWINKED THAT YOU BELIEVE THOSE WHO OPRESSED US AND STILL HAVE YOU BELIEVING THAT BEING BLACK IS THE WORST THING FOR ANY HUMAN BEING??? SOMEBODY TALK TO ME.....

Don't where you get the impression that black Britain’s feel superior..... I wouldn't say so since our youth idealise American black culture..... I have always said that if a person feels another race or culture is superior is often a hidden sign of an inferiority complex.
Yes it is true that after Hurricane Katrina the true plight of many AA's was highlighted.... and I also have argued bitterly here on this forum as to which country is more racists....
but at the end of the day...this disunity and in fighting and allegations against our own kind is our problem.... it is about time we concentrated on getting ourselves out of the mess we have found ourselves in... Enlightening ourselves and each other on the real truth and moving forward. Threads like this can lead to alot of negativity, and start up an African vs. Caribbean vs. AA thing which is always unpleasant.
Maybe your friend had a bad exprience with a school there no need to tar us all with the same brush.

sweetheart, you misread my post. i did not say all, i said some. i do not feel inferior to anyone. i know who i am. i ws just stating something that i thought was disturbing. i have encountered so many of us who come from outside the US who look down upon black americans. i, for one, embrace my african blood. i reach out to others. at the same time, i experience many different things and i am a social butterfly.a thread like this will only bring negativity if others feel offended or the content of the thread applies to someone

What do you think about your self that is the question.
Personally as long as I feel good about Me what others think is immaterial, because when it comes down to it there is only one box per person when we go, there is no country where we go and there is no white run government where we go
What may be of some help is try and treat others the way you want to be treated and if you detect a superior attitude remember that no one can belittle you without your ok.
Who Loves you Baby!

That the rest of the world wildly admires our Black Gangsta Culture does not reflect well on the taste of the rest of the world. Oh, it is made to look glamorous but like so much in america it is a FRAUD.Itsells individualism and freedom but it doesn't deliver individualism and freedom.

I honestly think a sensitive decent person has a RIGHT to look down on some aspects of american black culture.

But also they should not forget what we have been through nor should they ignore the many outstanding and decent blacks that this society has produced.

I had a blackjamaican girl come to my elementryschool in the states. She was a fine sensitive, athleticgirl and I was appalled at the horror that she had to face from some of our american black students. She was truly in shock notfrom the white society but from the black american students. The worst aspects of black american culture needs to change and I am not upset by people who are appalled by it.

Naturally, I will only say this toblack people but we american blacks need to recognize it and do some

Mz Teacher....
if you encounter any "individuals" from anywhere who have prejudice towards the group you identify as....you just have to educate them about your group and about themselves......
when you lay down facts to people....and point out the shortcomings that their group have which mirror the shortcomings that they love to talk about from other groups.....they stop talking foolishness...
trust me....I do it all the time.....
shuts them RIGHT up
the individuals you've met represent a mindset that exists globally......people mimick and copy everything that Black amercians do...but look down on the group.......these are just rotten miserable individuals......they don't speak for all Blacks living in england....
I've always liked to point out, when person makes these comments, that if they truly believe in soem sort of caste system......and they feel superior to another group X because of any reason ...than they must feel inferior to group T. they are just happy to , in their minds not be on the bottom rung of the pecking order.....pure buffoons

I agree.
Sometimes I get the opinion that many of the Afro Americans I've met are too American and can't see past it. We here in England are dubbed British but most of us still represent our homeland, be it Nigeria, Jamaica etc. America is diffrent, nothing wrong with being proud of being from the US but when people talk of the problems, the government etc that we can see on the outside too many Americans take it as a personal slight. Its the heart on the sleeve mentality AMericans (can be) more warm and friendly than most would expect and its shown in the personality of the politics, as though you're invited into Mr Bushes home so when people speak out about the US from an outside perspective its not broken down in the same way as it is in Enlgland.
Funny cause I had a talk with my US cousin in 2001 when I was in Canada, I was on my usual about dodgy governments and world politics but BWOY! She took it personal!
''YEAH!? Well.. we beat your ass in the Civil war! So they must be teaching you guys crap at school cause this that and this that!!!''
That was fistly, a few days before 9/11 and secondly a showing of the diffrent mentality between us.... I don't care about the civil war, no black british person would really, I'm yet to hear a black british person get up and defend England when theres a talk about some war or another. We aren't so patriotic in that way and never will be.
I also think singing the national anthem everyday in schools should be illegal. Some Americans can come across as Nazi in their attitude and approach to the world in general. Listen to Mr Bushes talks on global politics from an outside, non fox news perspective and you'll see it.
To some the corruption is blatant and it makes no sence. $billion$ dollar comapnies just down the road from poverty that can only be compared to the 3rd world.
