I havebecome aware through unhappy personal experience that the SKY plus recording box, appears to have what I believe is a design fault...

I bought my Sky plus box.. approx 1 year and a half ago.....just as my box crept over its years warranty..the system went funny, wiped by entire collection of recorded programmes and thenpoint blank refused to record anything fullstop...Everytime I tried to record I got a message advising me to ring Sky and a phone number...

So imagine this I ring this number to fix this supposed fault, I wait and I kid you not 90mins to get through...when i got through gave me details...to some smuck in India.. I was then put on hold again for a further30mins for the Technical Dept... So you can imagine my mood right..

Then they take me through the reboot proceedures TWICE no luck...no joy... Then they break the news.. I NEED a CALL OUT..and guess what? I must pay £65 because the box is out of warranty...Now given that I only had the flippin box 15 months and it only cost £89...I politely told them no can do....especially as I suspected it was a design fault and not a problem bourne out of misuse.

Aweek later thinking about this box,my mind told me to google this problem and I then come across this website..Sky problems click here. Imagine my annoyance when my suspicions that this was a design fault were confirmed..

PissedI phoned them again and demanded an engineer or I would END my subscribtion immediately....calling their sales number and NOT their service number I got through in 10mins..after telling them inno uncertain terms that the gig was up...they are still trying to deny that the problem is theirs and refuse to accept responsibility...after a prolonged period of arguments..they back down and offer a replacement box (reconditioned) for get this £35 and no call out fees...and you know I was nearly fool enough to accept this deal..but I decided not and said I'd consider their offer..

Now here's the clicher...a week later I decide nah sah dun it..I call them and told them point blank I'm cancelling my subscription..guess what happened?

They without any hesitation agreed toREPLACE my faulty box, book an an engineer free ofcharge....to do the job..

The engineer came this afternoon..took one look at the fault and admitted that it was unrepairable..that it was a design fault KNOWN by SKY... and that it appears to be wipespread... He even admitted that he'd been to certain homes twice..to replace the system after persistent failures.....

What Sky appear to be doing is removing faulty boxes like mine reconditioning them..and then inserting those reconditioned boxes in other homes who makecomplaints... The engineer even admitted that SKY attempted to fix the harddrive problem, by realigning their system hence the new programme line up recently..

So my advice for now..THINK carefuly before buying one of these boxes...Personally I'd wait or buy another harddrive recording system...

Funny how you can always get through to the sales line in a flash innit! Man I've had so much problems with Sky in the past it's put me off for life.

A few years agoI took a day off workwaiting for an engineer to arrivebut did anyone come? No! When it got to lateevening I called Sky and was cussing like mad when I finally got through then the woman was trying to justify it telling me how they could have had an accident and not been able to call reh reh. I asked the wretch is Sky going to compensate me for the day I lost as I was doing contract work at the time. She said no and started getting irate at ME! So I asked to speak to her manager and when she put me through to him I threatened to take my story to the local paper as well as cancel my servicesthen he begrudgingly gave me the full Sky package for the same price I was paying (I forgot for how long it lasted) and said he'd arrange for an engineer to come round the following evening at whatever time suited me. I just agreed cos I didn't really have the energy for anymore hassle.

I've been with Telewest for the past year and have never had any complaints (so far). But I'll be damned if I go back to Sky again. I got a recordable DVD player with a huge hard drive that's enough for me.

K-

this is our third box!!!

my husband and I spent no small amount of time cussing them out AND we got a refund because they were charging us for not being able to dial out on box, something their technician (then 4 others) couldn't fix...

If I had seen your posting when u were thinking about it, I would have warned you off.

Insist on a refund and wear them down.

Hmmm well this for me appears to be a case of ROCK and HARDPLACE..because I've had NTL and they are down right teef..the cost of their TV package nearly bankrupted me....

When I moved home I had Telewest...their engineers are equally inept, their aftersales service non existent...and the TV, Broadband & Telephone Deal, expensive... I would not in all that is mad..go back to Telewest AGAIN...

What I should have done and will do now is invest in an independant Harddrive recording system....Obviously SKY has a major problem that remains unreported..'strange' that innit...considering who they connected with......

[line]

ntl ripped me off with phone services and on top of that the package i have with sky wouldcost far more with ntl. a sky rep said it was cos ntl/telewest they have to pay sky money to broadcast many of the channels.

TiVo's areimproving soon they wont require subsrcriptions and that will be what i am after
