Hello
Can you help? I'm researching ethnic radio in the UK as a project to be published.
It's looking at the diversity that exists in the ethnic radio industry and the possible threats from new technology and the lack of legislation to protect these stations. Having interviewed stations it would be good to hear from any listeners of stations like 1Xtra, Club Asia, Voice of Africa, Chinese Spectrum etc.
If you can spare 5 minutes, I'd appreciate your views on this - http://www.mscrow.com/survey.html - the stations you listen to, what you think of them and your general feelings about their role in society.
Thanks

It's ok, I can understand any suspicion. I'm looking at two things, the diversity of ethnic radio that exists in the UK despite there not neing any proper legislation to support this kind of broadcasting; and the listeners of these stations. The other part is assessing what impact new technologies will have on potentially splitting up these often close communities as they listen via different mediums. For the sake of consistency, ethnic categorieswere taken from the office of national statistics and the CRA.
The web link will tell you a little more. Specific to the black community, I have spoken to Voice of Africa radio and 1Xtra, two very different stations catering as they see it for different needs. I am interested in your opinions and listening habits, maybe 'ethnic' radio is of little importance, or you take the opposite view.
There has been little research in this area though the stations have been enthusiastic,I am continuining research that was originallystarted by the commission for racial equality. If you can take a moment to be part of it, that would be great.

Well, I've gone through the emoticons and can't find a red face. sorry. Well what do you want to know? I'm 26, a late student, married and live in Manchester but I'm currently in portugal.
The final purpose of the study is for academic publishing, it will also be sent to other media organisations and the participants including the bbc. The subject is close to my heart because my family were holocaust refugees, they never felt able to keep their heritage alive or had access to any specific media, and I believe people should have access to what matters. Does that help?

Thank you...
BNV.....I think people ought to take the opportunity to give the AFRICAN view to this survey...I would however counsel against giving your personal details unless you feel totally confortable with this.... if you do be warned..I've participated in a study before and they will contact you periodically for months afterwards....
That said if you're goging to give your view, be blunt, be honest...give them the AFRICAN view as opposed to the 'ethnic' view...

Thanks for your reply, it would be good to get some responses. Some stations were very outpoken and it was very refeshing to hear.
To put anyone's mind at rest, your details won't be shared, any survey's that come through to my inbox are anonymous@ - your email is not revealed unless you add it and if any quotes are used in the report, you can opt to be named or not.
As with any academic research, you can also choose to withdraw at anytime up until submission - 28 April. If you would like to receive a copy of the research, just let me know.

Just one bump
I've had a couple of responses, many thanks, they have been honest and well thought out. If anyone else could spare 5 minutes I would be really grateful, I'll be closing the survey soon but would appreciate any further responses from this community.
