Me and my man have had enough of Britain, we are thinking of moving to Canada, can somebody give me a DETAILED description of canada.

Whats the infrastructure like

The health service?

The Race Relations, are they better then Britain? (important)

Job Prospects?

Buildings/Roads?

The entertainment?

House prices?

The Crime Rate?

Are there many black people there?

we are thinking of having a holiday out there first to see, but we would like some feedback from someone who lives there, or has lived there, not someone who simply went there on holiday once.

Sorry Askari and Lady A, don't know much about Canada.... except that it is supposed to be very clean, has a sizeable black community in Toronto.... mostly of Caribbean descent... Two sets of population, the French speaking and the English speaking.. crime rate is been low but like everywhere else it is rising.... quite a few racists crimes are coming to light now...

Supposed to be very beautiful, with extremely cold winters..... definately on my list of places to visit in the summer months.. but don't know if I would live there.

Just out of curiosity... why Canada.. aren't you just substituting one white regime for another?? Sure you won't find the same problems you are escaping here, there. Ever thought of Africa??? Most people seem to be headed to West Africa now!!!

Anyway hope you get the answers you are looking for soon.

Good luck.

www.britishexpats.com

go to forum, click on canada.

heres my experiences, but can only give info on toronto. (my sis in law is there, works as a stockbroker)

health service is non-existent

working classafrican folks live in own communites, albeit not as delapidated as uk

job prospects - hahahahaha! backward nepotistic ways. and theres a weird thing about "no canadian experience" wtf. doctors and nurses, teachers ect from uk cant get jobs. also dont expect any of your qualifications to count.

buildings are bigger on a whole.

roads are worse, loads of potholes on the 501. car insurance more expensive than here, cos they are bad drivers.

entertainment is good, nightlife ok, but they are not a very sociable folk on the whole, more family orientated

crime rate - same as any city almost, but not as bad as london imo

plus you have to wait more than 3 years to get permanent residency

go back to africa, i say! thats the true travel. dont go from one babylon to the next (if you can help it)

good luck,

jeff

Thanks for the responses miss nellia and black aviator.

@miss nellia.the reason i want to live in canada becauseit came out on top in an international poll in the best country to live in, it is an english speaking country, which is a big plus, im too lazy to learn a new language LOL. Everyone i speak to loves canada, but they only go there on holidays, so their opinions are not valid.

as for africa, it does not appeal to me. although it does have pockets of wealth, the governments are unstable, and disaster could just be around the corner, there are also many social problems there. also ALOT of people from africa are looking to leave africa, legally or illegally, and the question i ask is, why do they all want to leave, there must be something bad about it, lack of jobs etc, so im afraid africa is not on my list.

@black aviator. thanks for the advice, that forum was good...im still reading it now.again africa doesn't appeal to me for the reasons I have said above. you seem to give canada a negative report, i presume you wouldnt live there. i heard they have a similar health system to britain, like an NHS kind of system? the key question, when you add EVERYTHING together, would you say it is better then Britain?

Hmmm okay I'll try my best. It really depends on where you want to go because a lot of people seem to forget exactly how BIG a country Canada is. Like most countries you've got a different set of attitudes and lifestyles depending on where you go. I was raised in Ontario in both what we call the GTA (Greater Toronto Area), which is composed of suburbs/cities that surround Toronto. Here's a very brief view of the GTA:
Quote:
To the West:
Quote:
Mississauga & Brampton- significant east indian population in that area, but you'll still find some black, filipino, asians, and people of Euro descent. There's also Oakville, which is a pretty wealthy suburb.

Quote:
To the North: Markham - The Pacific Mall is located here. Large Asian & East Indian community here.Aurora & Newmarket - wealthy area...manyHockey players with families live here, asdo some big shot executives and others who make a lot of money. There are also the regular working class people. Some very nice neighbourhoods.
Quote:
Richmond Hill...same old, Vaughan- similar to the ones before. Theme park is located in this once sleepy town. I was just there back in February and they have really built it up. Overall they're all nice suburbs. As for black people, they are there, but not many...but that is my opinion. Anyone else who would like to state otherwise, please do.
Quote:
To the East: (from West to East) Pickering, Uxbridge, Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa. Ajax-Pickering-Uxbridge - my home turf. When my family first moved there there were barely any black people to be seen. But within a year it was as though everyone from our old neighbourhood in Scarborough moved with us. Things in Scarborough started getting sketchy so many people moved east. The result was a more diverse Pickering and Ajax. Still took some time, but today more than before there are tons of black people. Today there is definitely more of a multicultural mix. My old street alone is very diverse. But Pickering and Ajax, is where I would recommend going, like many cities in the GTA if you want to settle down and have a family. They are great places to raise kids, people are friendly...oh in Ajax there is a shop called Rotilicious and they have some nice Rotis there. But there are quite a few shops that cater to the Caribbean community in and around the GTA as well as other cultures. I stress Caribbean community because the Caribbean community makes up the largest black group in Canada. Anyway I'm rambling. To sum up...Whitby is often called White-by...self explanatory. You're slowly starting to see trickles, but still largely WASPs...Oshawa is pretty much the same. The south end is seen as being pretty sketchy.

canada and england....ummmm.

canada reminds me of england, rewind 20 odd years.. my advice is be careful, cos you would end up flipping burgers (if lucky) in bugger king - even then they say "no canadian experience, eh"

id say england leaves it for dust.

and thats bold coming from me.

great holiday destination, awful place to migrate to, to better yourself financially though.

and then theres your family back home your gonna miss.

out of interest have you ever looked at africa? ghana? accra?

i used to be skeptical about going...exactly the reasons you stated- but im on my way there later this year, stuff the uk media and their propaganja, i say....

All these white countries are the same. There really isn'tthat much of a difference when it comes to the race issue. Even crappy countries like Finland (wtf?) and Belgium are full of racists. You just have to learn to live with it or move back to your country of origin.
