Let this be a lesson to all members - if you have a problem take it to PM first.

I'm not getting at you but in my book it's manners to speak to someone privately first any beef you may have with them. After all you wouldn't want it thata person who has a problem with youlet's you knowfirst time when you're in the middle of Tescoand everyone elsecan get in on your business - right?

I hear you, and you're right... I should have used the PM system first... but... I do think this topic has benefited from being aired publically... it wasn't just SafteyBlitz I had a problem with...

Also it's in the guidelines. The same guidelinesyou let everyone know, the ethos of which, had been broken.

Africribrit: Ok now that Safety has clarified his point I’d like to make two separate but related points to the current discourse…
- I really wish people would stop using the Moderation team as their whipping boy..its tiresome and really unreasonable.. for the record if someone says openly they they made an error and gives a valid reason for that error. why was not possible to just accept that and move on… Too often people project their own fears onto the Moderation team and then act surprised when as human beings we put the record straight in blunt terms.. It is about time that as a diverse African culture we GIVE people the benefit of the doubt FIRST..and not as an afterthought. that way we can All enjoy this space and not spiral into unnecessary words that in truth it could have been avoided…
I agree with much of what you say K, but the fact is, I didn't believe SafetyBlitz first assertion that he'd simply made a mistake. I'm still scratching my head over how someone, an African, here or in the states can not know the term 'breed' used to refer to a person or group of people is offensive... Honestly, I just thought all sensible big people knew this... After SafetyBlits rather rude outburst, I accept that he really was ignorant to this fact and as such, I've accepted his spology and offered one of my own... so to my mind, considering how sorry everyone now is, that part of this issue should now be done... agreed?
I agree its unfair to use mods as whipping boys, but I also believe the words and actions of mods can either exaccerbate (Spl) or calm a situation... the response from some mods after my first post somewhat inflamed the situation, and whilst I don't wish to continue singling onyone out, when mod involvement amounts to little more than making prevocative statements like 'you've got to call them something' already difficult situaitons are rarely made any better...
- That said Africribrit..I thought you raised an interesting point that could have developed into a good learning point for further debate… Which is why I wanted to comment but held off until Safety had said his piece… I think however the point may have been lost and that’s a pity. Because I thought it would have interesting to explore our current terminology and whether it was time to drop certain ways we are identified or how we identify ourselves…
On another day, I'd be happy to debate issues around racial terminology and identity with you... although Itend to go off the plot somewhat on that particular topic having spent too long looking into it... which probably also explains some of my enthusiasm at getting into such areas and my sensitivity aroung racial terminology more generally... but not today... I'm proper bushed and my children have just come back after being away for the past few days so I'm gonna go hug them up and turn off this thing for the night... I'm off work though for the next two weeks so we can chat bout it soon...
