What does turning tricks mean?

I've heard this inreference to strippers so I figure that it's got something to do with sex andbeing a 'ho. But what exactly is turning tricks?

In 1960's/70's African American slang it meant prostitutes having sex with paying customers or "johns".Or it could mean a regular woman having sex for money.

Trick= Man paying for sex

So if a woman is "turning tricks" she's having sex with men for money. So yeah its pretty much a slang word for prostitution.
