Hi All,

I'm looking to become involved in mentoring a school aged young person. I live in South East London and am looking for a project which is close to home. Could someone give me some leads?

Cheers,
AMR

www.do-it.org

This is one I have joined, they have a plethora of mentoring vacancies and other voluntary work. Type in your postcode and what voluntary work you wanna do, it will bring up a whole list of vacancies you can apply for in your area. I've got info on a youth mentoring project for 16-21yr olds which I need to follow up in may. Check it out, I think it's a really good website.

Hiya

Do you have any experience with working with young people?

You will also need a CRB people check that takes a while so do it now otherwise you cant work with children.

InThornton Heathyou have the CYPP Croydon youth people project, they do training for people wanting to bementors and then they find you a placement with a child once you finish the course( and its free).

PM me if you are interested in getting envolved in projects to help young peoeple because we are looking to set up a foundation ( my husbands a mentor) we also live in south east london so if you interested niceone.gif

I got my info from CYPP, they are a part of the website I posted. I've just updated my CRB (need to get a copy as it goes). It was too late for me to get on april's course so I was told to call in may and do my interview so I can get on june's course. If you know any mentoring courses I can apply to now then let me know pls.

@facetyga lEIC do training for mentors but usually you need to be in a job. The best thing to do is asl local youth centres or pupil referral units if they are looking for voulenterrs.

What is it exactly that you want to do ?

The From Boyhood to Manhood Foundation in the London Borough of Southwark was founded in 1996 by Decima Francis and Uanu Seshmi, following concern within the community about the number of young black boys being excluded from school and becoming involved with gangs, drugs and violence. Behind their tough street image, disaffected boys like these suffer from low self-esteem and a lack of confidence. All too often they do not have positive role models or stable adults in their lives to guide them through the transition from boyhood to manhood.

I want to work with young black youths from the age of about 14 upwards, especially black boys. I've checked out that from boyhood to manhood website it soundsinteresting, might look into it further
