I have come across this term now and again and I would like it to be validated for me especially from members who reside in USA.
Is it true that upto today, that blacks who pursue education are considered as trying to be whitey? What is the basis of this, if, and I hope not, it is true?
Why I find this to be absurd is that, where I grew up in Kenya, education was and is considered the ultimate measure of one "who has arrived".
Agian I could be stereotyping, but it is a phrase that to be frank hurts me. Knowledge is devine to me. In each and every culture, it has existed in one way or another, and to have a counter culture that discourages it is preposterous at best!
There are different kinds of education and from that different perspectives. What kind of education are you persuing and where?
The most education you will or should ever get is from your daily observations and what you allow to go into your subconscious. That, your skills, and personality usually determine the job education you look for if thats whats most important to you right now.
But I have to ask you how is your spiritual education and how and when do you plan to pursue it and specifically where do you plan to pursue it?
Yeah by some of the ignorant of us it is trying to be white? Why well part of it is speaking English. The more proper your English sounds the whiter you are to them....why I dunno..
Don't think this is just because you are getting a formal education, LOL I am sure that Hat could come on here and tell you about what the ignorant of us think on people learning about their heritage in which at that point you are weird as they refuse to believe that they are Africans but N****s or Afro (not sure where the mighty land of Afro to this day is located but that is another story....) Americans.
Which is why a lot of AA comedians joke about hiding things of value in a book because they know that the ignorant AAs among us would never look there LOL
