I was refraining from entering this discussion, because I have somewhat ambivalent feelings about the word, and use it on occasion, myself...and may CONTINUE to use it, on occasion. What made me feel compelled to comment is when my girl, Rockette, brought up the case in NY.

I'll listen to Africans/Blacks/Negroes/Nubians talk all day about why we shouldn't use the word for our own psychic well being, but I REFUSE to entertain a discussion about not using the word because CRACKERS might think THEY can use the word. White people have never needeD permission to use the word, whether WE used it or not. wHITE PEOPLE never needed permission to engage in violence against us whether WE were using the word or not, and they don't need permission now. That is a bullshit, bogus, disingenous argument and Black people need to stop humoring white people when they raise it. Whether Black people en masse stop using the word, or continue to say it til the cows come home, is none of white people's or any other people's goddamn business.

This is extremelly twisted logic. If it bothers you so much when white people use it, or whine about not being able to use it then the solution is simple. Stop giving them a reason to believe that they SHOULD have the right to use it.
