The saddest part? you could show this world wide on national TV and it still wouldn't change a damn thing.

I don't really know about that. I think if something is done as part of a concerted movement with enough of us consistently pushing the cause - THINGS WILL CHANGE.

Furthermore, if you are a person who is against the use of this word, then back that up with your action. Don't buy (or even download for free) the songs that use it in the lyrics - even if it has got a 'kicking' beat.

With rap artist making millions out of using it in their lyrics, don't expect many to cease and expect others to follow suit. But once we start saying, "We don't want to hear that sh*t no more", by NOT buying their music they will take heed.

Turn ABOLISH THE 'N' WORD into a campaign by making it your personal mission and change will come.

Isn't it Ironic that we have to have worldwide campaigns to stop BLACK PEOPLE using the n word????
Its one thing that really gets tome. Don't they realise how STUPID they sound? And the more ignorant ones have the CHEEK to argue that they are RIGHT
We disrespect and devalue our OWN sh*t and our own folks in an effort to legitimize ourselves to other people and I find it despicable and lacking in dignity - G Mahogany 2008

Thats the thing. I love hiphop. All of it, from commercial T.I, 50 cent to conscious Common, Talib, The Roots. They all use the term though. Its at the stage now when i'm the car I can't turn up music because the n word every few bars.
When I dj I only ever play the radio version of tracks. Or if they aint one I try to doctor it myself or just don't play the track.

With respect sitck up, isn't it two side of the same coin? you may not support the word and therefore use toned down versions of the tunes when you play them but buy supporting the artists music, are you not still supporting the use of the word?

@Backatya, great points although I must admit. i'm still sceptical about how effective it will be against the backdrop of hip hop etc. How would one go about such a campaign? Also, melissa's point makes me very angry. Its atrocious that we would have to start a campaign to stop our own people using the word. It makes us look like a bunch of backwards, ignorant laughing stocks, although I have emailed that link to everyone in my address books. How would a person go about such a campaign?

I was thinking that too, but you know what we can't care about what others think....they've made it pretty clear anyway. On our journey to conciousness there will be times when we'll have to face harsh truths, embarassment, shame etc but that's just one of those things. Whatever it takes for our people to see sense and act is worth it in the long run.

See this is the thing. I couldn't give a crap what people think of us because like you say, we already know. I just hate to know that we've been set back so many bloody years! It's only the other day that we had to stop the white folk from using that term. It pisses me off i'm honest. Takes me back to a big debate I had about it in my cultural studies class at uni last year. Ignorant fools tryna tell me that spellin it with an "a" makes it "positive" and "ours" and how in the bible in means "prophet". KMT!
