I watched Out of Sight starring George Clooney and Don Cheadle recently, and I remember one scene where Don tells a thug to "kick this cracker's ass".

Now why did he say that? I thought a cracker was something you ate! When compared to the numerous terms and words we've endured, is 'cracker' ok?

Have you heard the word used like this before?

Because of the "crack" of the whip, my brotha.

term for poor white.....

majority of white men in colonial countries were poor....didn't own property ....etc..

planation owners looked at them as they were little better than the ensalved Africans.....

they hated their position in life and took it out on the only people who were below them on the totem pole.....the Africans....

they were the overseers on the plantation....and the ones who had daily contact with the africans....beating, whipping, etc our people

Thee is similiar term for them in every former slave colony....thiose who really know about history of slavwery are aware of what these terms were in country they are from..

in Haiti they werepetit blanc..or ti blan..little white people.....

the rich whites were called grande blanc....big whites....

--------------------------------------------------------

and 2deal2....if you are offended by derisive term that Blacks use for whites...hope you get over it...and get real.

Ihope your asking out of curiosity because it seemed by the way you was asking that you were offended or indeed disgusted by the term cracka. if you look at the long list of named we get abused with and look at how we are treated and the unhuman way our ancestors were treated then i'm sure you will see that any name we come up with for "them" doesn't even come close to even being offensive in comparison.

I am asking out of curiosity! I've never heard any Black people in the UK call a white person 'cracker' and don't even think white people here would 'get it'. I hear in US Black music and movies so I just wanted to know. I'm not white and it doesn't worry me at all.

The term cracker has its origins in Florida where early Floridian cattle ranchers/slave owners used to crack whips to herd their animals.

I can tell you that 95% of Blacks use the term with no clue as to its origin, just as they mindlessly call eachother n*ggers in public places, on TV and Radio.

What is the source for the first part of what you wrote...?

Florida doesn't seem like it would be the origins of the term..for obvious reasons...

there is a term used in uk..that I just read about a few weeks ago here...person used it when talking about how poor whites were wearing the burberry pattern and upsetting the elitist snobs who owned the company....they said the term was roughly synonymous with "redneck".in america....so there you have it...cracker, redneck about the same term....asthe british term.

Cracker is nothing in comparison to all the vile words whites have used against us, but I still think we should not use the word cracker as we would just be on their level, which is the lowest form of mankind.
