A friend just informed me that there was "tornado"nearTrevelyan Gardens, where she resides.
I tuned into the BBC World Service and the announcer reported gusts to 60mph". Not to belittle the event I have expereinced a least half dozen F2's, a couple of F4's and witnessed the aftermath of an F5. The event in North London was likely and F0. Hasany one else here lived in he States and experienced the "Devil" wind? Is this a foreshadowing of things to come due to Global Warming?
The Fujita Scale
F-Scale Number
Intensity Phrase
Wind Speed
Type of Damage Done
F0
Gale tornado
40-72 mph
Some damage to chimneys; breaks branches off trees; pushes over shallow-rooted trees; damages sign boards.
F1
Moderate tornado
73-112 mph
The lower limit is the beginning of hurricane wind speed; peels surface off roofs; mobile homes pushed off foundations or overturned; moving autos pushed off the roads; attached garages may be destroyed.
F2
Significant tornado
113-157 mph
Considerable damage. Roofs torn off frame houses; mobile homes demolished; boxcars pushed over; large trees snapped or uprooted; light object missiles generated.
F3
Severe tornado
158-206 mph
Roof and some walls torn off well constructed houses; trains overturned; most trees in forest uprooted
F4
Devastating tornado
207-260 mph
Well-constructed houses leveled; structures with weak foundations blown off some distance; cars thrown and large missiles generated.
F5
Incredible tornado
261-318 mph
Strong frame houses lifted off foundations and carried considerable distances to disintegrate; automobile sized missiles fly through the air in excess of 100 metres; trees debarked; steel re-inforced concrete structures badly damaged.
F6
Inconceivable tornado
319-379 mph
These winds are very unlikely. The small area of damage they might produce would probably not be recognisable along with the mess produced by F4 and F5 wind that would surround the F6 winds. Missiles, such as cars and refrigerators would do serious secondary damage that could not be directly identified as F6 damage. If this level is ever achieved, evidence for it might only be found in some manner of ground swirl pattern, for it may never be identifiable through engineering studies

The BBC have pictures on their website. I feel sorry for the people whose houses got mashed up. Nobody needs this sh*t, especially days before Xmas. Many insurance companies don't cover for 'acts of God' which make it even worse. I was inNorth Surrey this morning and the way the halestones and lightening was going on I was actually a little but scared, it felt like the wind was almost hurricane strength. Didn't this happen in Birmingham or somewhere like that last year?

You mean Babylon burning? I hope so.
Theres always tornados up in the north of England, its quite frequent but more so in the countryside. There was some serious thunder a few days ago... when I say thunder I mean rattle your house type of thunder, like the sky was being ripped to shreds. The tornado was probably last night.. was kind of windy.
Any site links?

Apparently the UK is the Tornado capital of the world. But they're little titchy things mostly and unnoticeable. Nothing like those in Australia or America. It gets windy here particularly at the coast around the Irish or North sea but inland in London? Not really. 60mph as you say isn't that bad. Mind you, Britain ceases to function when leaves fall off the trees and they have the "wrong type" of snow.

there was a big one in birmingham last year... ripped up a few streets
there was uproar as most of the houses didnt have insurance but the council stumped up the money for the repairs anyway...then whats the point of insurance if you council gonna bail you out even though your not a tennant but a home owner?

Only the best is good enough....

For a split second we thought there was some kind of explosion or something...the weather in this country is haywire. I won't be surprised if England starts getting major earthquakes inthe near future.

Thats the one! Woke me up as well... funny cause my radio alarm had gone off and the DJ on Sweet FM was shocked as well. It wasn't right. Thought it might have been an explosion as well, my bro saw horizontal lightning when it happened.

Karma Karma Karma. I say we enslave them in the confusion and use them to rebuild Africa and the Americas.

101Airborne,
When I think about London, I think about rain--maybe some snow, but never a tornado. I wouldn't say that it's the " Devil" winds but some of odd occurances that are taking place are what god say would happen. Think about living in Georgia( I could have sworn you said that you lived or still live there) everytime, they say high degree of wind take place that seem tornadic, they say it's " High winds" and not a tornado. If there is one thing I find about my state as of late is that it's beginning to remind me of Chicago. Seemingly wind comes at anytime ,especially after itr rains. Although Tornadoes occurances are nothing unusual in Georgia, the wind and this flip-flop weather is strange.
