Authorities asked that the 1990 death of Roger Sweet's first wife, Marlene Sweet, be reviewed by Oakland County Medical Examiner Ljubisa Dragovic after Sweet's second wife, Lizzie Mae Collier-Sweet, above, disappeared Jan. 8.
FARMINGTON HILLS -- The 1990 death of a Farmington Hills woman is being called a homicide, not an accident, in a new investigation by authorities.
The June 16, 1990 death of Marlene Sweet originally was described as the result of an accidental fall in her home on Crest Forest.
But because her husband, Roger Sweet, now is a suspect in the disappearance of his second wife, Lizzie Mae Collier-Sweet, authorities asked that the 1990 death be reviewed by Oakland County Medical Examiner Ljubisa Dragovic.
Authorities now say that the injuries found on Marlene Sweet's body were likely the result of domestic violence.
Lizzie Mae Collier-Sweet, 58, disappeared on Jan. 8 after arson destroyed her Brownstown Township home. Roger Sweet, who is not charged in either case, filed for divorce on Dec. 8 when his wife was recovering in a hospital after attempting suicide with sleeping pills.
Roger Sweet is in the Wayne County Jail, c
harged with sexually abusing a mentally disabled woman who called him "Uncle Roger." Authorities say the relationship began when the girls was 13 years old.
Brownstown Police Chief Dan Grant said today that investigators found hundreds of pictures of child ****ography and sexually explicit pictures of the girl on Sweet's computer.
In 1990, Sweet told authorities that Marlene Sweet, an alcoholic, fell in the bathroom and struck her head on the concrete floor. A funeral home worker thought several injuries, including bruising on her body, were suspicious but an autopsy determined the death was accidental.
Farmington Hills police said they will now investigate the 1990 death and turn in their findings to the Oakland County Prosecutor for consideration.
