I would like them to play that same advert in Jam, or any other Island and see what reaction it gets.
I can't believe that in 2007 England still thinks that this kind of thing is acceptable, I know I'm going to complain because its just offensive, I hope that coconut sell out is in hiding somewhere, if I see him in the street I pelt him with two bajan bullets....two big rocks:P

I cannot believe that in 2007 Black people STILL think it's cool to play these monkey-arse sambo parts.
And why is it that they never use a proper Jamaican to play these parts? Look how many Jamaicans there are in this Country. And I'm not just talking about the advert alone but in general hence Bad Girls where they used a Nigerian Girl to play a Jamaican! GGRRRRRR!!!!!!
The same thing they've done in this Trident advert (Police ah mek chewing gum too raass!!) Im sure the guy is West African, not Jamaican.

What kind of stupid argument is this? People, where are your heads??? You are more concerned with the fact that this dyam fool accepted the part of a 'Jamaican', when he possibly isn't. You are more concerned that he could possibly be Nigerian! My God we are so divided, so f**d with - it doesn't bear description.
For a start, the man is an AFRIKAN. As to where in the diaspora he hails from is totally immaterial. I used to be a professional actress - which incidentally was a profession that I chose to leave as I refused to play stereotypical roles, being slim and very melanated - and even though my parents both hail from Jamaica, my Jamaican accent sucked. I also know for a fact that my forefathers came from Nigeria and Sierra Leone (hope I spelt that right!). As far as I am concerned, I am an Afrikan, and proud of it. ALL people placed in the Caribbean are Afrikans, and all melanated people here in the UK are AFRIKAN. The fact that we have had this language shoved in our mouths is also immaterial, and the sooner we understand this the better.
Unbelievable, getting rattled about the shocking fact that he may not be 'authentic Jamaican', rather than the fact that we should not only be striving to lobby this offensive, pernicious representation of Afrikans off our TVs, but we should boycot the nasty piece of s**t - en mass - NOBODY from the Afrikan community should buy it.
I feel nothing but pity for the deluded fool who cannot see what others see when he looks in the mirror, who accepted this role. At first I was angry, and thought the brotha needed two licks upside his head. Now I am convinced he needs counselling, as do so many of us in the Afrikan diaspora as the above quote shows. Have you heard of the book 'Post Traumatic Slavery Disorder?'. If we carry on thinking we are divided, they in this 'host country' will continue to think it's okay to take the living p**s out of us, to incarcerate us in disproportionate amounts, to 'educate' us with a crock full of nonesense, and to put guns in the hands of our babies and stand back and watch the action. (Yep, that would be the complete operation TRIDENT). Remember the 'divide and rule' tenet? It's still working y'all. And the Afrikan Maangamizi (Holocaust) - it hasn't ended yet.
Break the chain people. Get into the practice of doing something about your realities by just lodging a complaint with the ASA, and stop chatting about foolishness.
Much peace and blessings in ONENESS blkafro

LadySirren, tell me about it. What kind of statementwas that indeed! I also think that is the least of our worries, but hey confused3there are always a few who still see the necessity in dividing us.
God determines who walks into your life...It's up to you who you let walk away, who you let stay, and who you refuse to let go. May God bless all of you and your life be full of Peace, Prosperity, Love and Abundance. Amen

You have completely missed my point, OK if you want to label EVERY Black people as AFRICAN, fine, whatever rocks your boat. But the thing is that if you have an alternative view and you take into consideration Blacks from Africa and the Caribbean have different culture values, you then accuse people of trying cause a division, Nonsense. Even people from the African contintent different culture values, it dosen't mean your trying to separate and divide Black people when you observe the difference!

Any that's another story! The point that I was trying to make is that just because someone is Black, the film makers think that they can play anyother Black people, very poorly, albeit from Africa or the Caribbean. Just because he/she is Black, Which isthe same view you share with them, MissSirrius.

The point I'm making is authenticity! If an African is trying to portray someone from the Caribbean and visa versa and doing it badly, you,re own commonsense will tell you that the person who's playing the part is not being authentic!

The advert is offensive, that is a fact! but what I was also talking about is how the media manages to find black people who are willing to act the monkey in front of the whole nation by, not only playing the buffoon coon but portraying other Black nationalities in a diogitory manner.

You say that Black people aren't respected. Well who's going to respect a race of people who are quick to act like a complete moron for a fast buck? I don't see the Asians or Jews on telly acting like imbeciles. So what does that tell you about us as a people?

You can go around blaming the media and what-not but we should look into ourselves. If we were close-knit and displined community, it would be impossible for the media to find anyone of us to play the jovial ape!

My other final point is that I don't go around thinking that every Black people I come across as being 'one'. You'll find that a lot of the time is that certain Black people are Black in colour alone, not consciously. Hence the reason for that Idiot bwoy for doing the Trident advert.

If he was self conscious and had commonsense, if would realise that what he was doing is very demoralising to his race. Huh! Black as one? I think not.
