DANVILLE, Calif. Author Terry McMillan is suing her former husband for 40 million dollars.

McMillan alleges that Jonathan Plummer tried to smear her reputation during their highly publicized 2005 divorce.

McMillan's relationship with Plummer inspired her best-selling 1996 novel, "How Stella Got Her Groove Back." The book was adapted into a movie starring Angela Bassett and Taye Diggs.

The lawsuit -- filed today in Contra Costa County court -- claims Plummer, a Jamaica native, married McMillan only to become a U-S citizen. He later announced that he's gay.

She says Plummer and his lawyer, Dolores Sargent, conspired to threaten and humiliate and embarrass her in an attempt to extort money from her.

Plummer -- now a Danville hair stylist -- declined to discuss the suit. Sargent could not be reached for comment.

maybe she is trying to get the money HE GOT from the divorce, he got awarded a large sum....for what? did he look after the house or kids?

she should definitely sue him
