That is soo interesting... lawd loads of interesting comment on BNV tonite.... I was surprised at some people's reaction to BFG's suggestion of meeting up... but you are right some people like the persona they have built up for themselves on BVN, I mean I have images in my head of people on here look like based on what they say, their attitudes and their avatars.. for example I think Kunjufu looks like Malcom X LOL.

To meet up would mean that people would have too reveal the person behind the mask and that would kill the persona and the perception I suppose.

I know what 1 or 2 people on here look like coz I've seen their pics, but as for the vast majority I have my own images in my mind of they they look like and would not like to be disappointed lmaooo (kidding).

I must say I was aware of the fact some people like to remain anon for the reasons you mentioned and I really appreciate this. But there are obviously some people who dont mind linking up, and I really thought it would be more than those who have already agreed to make this event a reality. I also thought there would be more of a mixture... not just the ladies.


Okay, in true relentless style... I'm now asking for BNV member who have not built up such a persona to the extent they fear revealing their true self.... How about we make this proposal a reality for the peeps who do want to mingle and network and have fun - What say you?

It's not a case of that. More the case (for me personally) that i find it easier to "relax" and interact with people online and reveal a more playful side of myself, whereas in real life i am very shy and slow to open up to new people. I can be a fun, bubbly person, but only when i know people really well, hence my comment about folks maybe being disapointed having maybe built up an impression of what i am like. Not building up a fake persona online (though some folks probably do).

Besides, online forums such as this one are a great way for shy, reticent folks to interact with others without all the social pressures that come with "real life" interactions, as sad and pathetic as that might seem to some people lol

Ahh MB, I hope my relpy to your explanation post did not come across rude. Because I so hear where your coming from. Funny, the day I started this thread I was feeling impulsive and thought it would be fun to meet some of the BNV crew; I still want this meet to go ahead, as this could be a decent way to network and enhance social circles. However, I sooooooo understand where your coming from, me, I can also be shy when I meet some people for the first time... I tend to watch and clock more when I go into quiet mode... see the people you feel will be cool to get on with. I hear you. However, as I have gotten older I tend to just chat to any one. Thank you for replying.

the "me" which appears on the board is my "true" personality. But it can take a loooong time for me to reveal myself. I think as i have gotten older i have actually gotten worse at this. I think maybe its because as adults we find it more difficult to make friends than children.

I have no problem being my usually crazy self with the kids at my job, but among the adults i still feel like a "new" member of staff, even though i have been there since November! I don't know, maybe i perceive adults as more judgmental and less accepting. Or maybe i am just immature and juvenile at heart!

Fantastic idea!! however defeats the whole idea of being online and anonymous as enough people have already indicated. Funny though most of the guys have been very timid indeed me I'm not called international man of mystery for nothing.Maybe we can meet up at a major black event and have a table or seating area for BNV members.Personally not very confrontational just like my threads however I love to dispel half truths ,distortion of black history in addition to how we perceive ourselves.
