grin Training to be a teacher - 24-06-07, 12:59 PM

Hi all (its been a looooooooooong time *smile*)
I have just been accepted on the GTP course, really cant wait till summer, as I have been working as a LSA, for just over a year now, and really want to get qualified!

Just wondering if anyone else is also training, or start training in sept? Also any qualified teachers who can tell me a little about their experiences and about buying a home on the key worker programme as I have heard mixed responses.

Thanks
cims

P.S im training to become a primary school teacher

P.P.S any heads of departments or sencos....

NB: There is about £15k available on program.. can't remember the split but there is some for being on the program, some for choosing a subject like IT, Science or Languages and there is the welcome golden handshake.. check it out and grab yours.. its all free and available.

The key worker scheme is a sham.. been trying for 4yrs and the bull to get money is unreal.. eg, you can only get 3.75x salary and I live in an area where the smallest one bedroom flats go for about £185K.. gave up my £34K teaching post last year cos I needed at least £49K without deposit and at least £44K with a £20K deposit..

Good luck and enjoy..

I became a teacher through GTP... there is no golden hello that's just for PGCE students and also depends on if you're teaching a shortage subject i.e. Maths, Science and I think ICT.

It was worth it as I got paid while I trained, and by the time you complete the programme you’re very comfortable with being in front of a classroom and will have developed your own style that the students will be used too. If your school then keeps you on then BINGO!!! It means they really like you and will pay to keep you, then you can negotiate for a good salary. (Go for M4 straight)

Good Luck in Sept.
