Have been working so much recently its made me stupid, can't think straight I'm so stressed.
Need to find a way of calculating the amount of minutes inbetween two times. For some reason I can't get my mind around it... supposed to calculate the time between sunrise and sunset in London.
So...
Sunrise; 4:44am
Sunset; 9:23pm
Thats 15 hours right? Or is it 16? Right, 15 hours...
15 X 60 = 900
The minutes make, 16 + 23 = 39
So theres 939 minutes inbetween 4:44am and 9:23pm, right?
This is annoying, can't tell if i've got it or not.
Damn it... from 4am to 4pm is 12 hours so add the left over 5 hours and its 17 which makes it 1059 in total with the minutes... which makes the rest of the calculations just annoying to figure out.
Any help? Google isn't saying much.

I made it 16 hours and 39 mins. If you ignore the minutes for now and just round up to make the time start at 5am (sunrise). Then count the hours from 6am all the way up to 9pm (sunset) that should give 16 hours right? So it's 6,7,8,9,10,11,12,1, 2,3,4, 5,6,7,8,9.
Then you add the minutes, that is 16 and 23 which should give you 39.
So the answer is 16 hours and 39 mins.

Oo I forgot you wanted it in minutes. The answer is 999 minutes. 16x60 = 960+39 = 999.

Im sure there must be some mathmatical way to calculate it. I've worked it out as 999 mins I just said from 5am to 9 pm is 16 hours so 16*60= 960 plus the 16mins befor 5am plus the 23 mins after which altogether becomes 960+16+23=999.
I think im not sure that you can treat it as a normal calculation i.e 21.23-4.44 which gives you 16.79 from that take .40 which gives you 16.39 then take the 16 * by 60 then add the 39=999.

Why are you taking .40 from it? Where'd you get that from? Would that work in general...?
Am trying to work out 'true hours' as in the hours and time of daylight in the day and night calculated from sunrise to sunset... will post the rest of the equation in a bit.

I tried it with differnt times and it really does work I dont know why it just works. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that 100-60=40 i dont know.
lets say you wanted to know the number of minutes from 8.35am to 19.44pm
9.00-19.00 is 10hrs 600mins. then adding the 25mins before 9 and 44 mins after 19.00 gives you 69mins (1hr 9mins) adding gives you 11hr 9mins or 669mins.
Using that calculation gives us 19.44-8.35=11.09 takin away the 0.40 will give us 10.69 (10hours and 69mins) which= 669mins.

Now for the rest of the equation...

After calculating the number of minutes in the day with SheShes' ingenious formula.
21:23 - 4:44 = 16.79 - .40 = 16.39
16 x 60 = 960 + 39 = 999
= Exactly 999 minutes from sunrise to sunset.
999 divided by 12 = 83.25
So thats 83.25 minutes in each true 'hour' of the day. Which varies every three days as the time the sunrises and sets changes constantly.
120 - 83.25 = 36.75
Which is the amount of minutes of each true 'hour' of the night.
Right...
So taking the 44 minutes from 4:44am.
44 - 60 = -16
- 16 + 83.25 (the minutes in each 'hour') = 67.25
This is the figure we take into the next hour...
4:44 + 67 mins = 5:51am
The first hour of sunrise is 4:44am - 5:51am... now I have to do this for ALL the hours of the day.
The next 'hour' is...
67.25 - 60 = 7.25
7.25 + 83.25 = 90.5 mins
5:51am + 90 mins = 7:22am
So the next 'hour' is;
5:51am - 7:22am
So... what I need now is a formula to do all of that without stressing my overly worked self.
Each time carries into the next and has to be exact;
90.5 - 60 = 30.5 + 83.25 = 113.75 minutes into the next hour.
7:22 + 113.75 minutes
Nope... this is all going heywire. That can't be right.
Time for a cig... if anyone can figure this out please feel free to try, I'm going wrong somewhere.

Awww come on, you're the genious.
Would be good if you could make it into a proper formula as well. .lol.
Thing is there are programs that can do all this, could make it into an excel sheet and get it done as well but it takes from being able to do it yourself.
