In the past year the UK music scene has changed dramatically. Not sure if anyone is really clued up on the 'scene' over here but in the past year we've lost Reckless Records and now Fopp has closed down.
Reckless Records
RIP Fopp
Don't care
too much about Fopp, they were an independant borderline major store supposedly expanding having just opened a new store in Tottenham court road but haven't been able to keep up the pace.
Reckless records was a well known second hand store selling vinyl and CDs, some of their outlets sold new goods as well. Its like Burger King closing down but more underground and upsetting, burgers taste good but don't really last too long and they don't sell valuable records for £5... that and they don't allow you to trade crap records for other titles at a good rate.
Why can't Nike close down instead you ask?
The answer is simple, you can't download a pair of Nikes to efficiantly destroy the very thing you apparently love. I'm not even being biased and I'm not going to cuss off any downloading freeloaders, its a good tool but for real the music scene is / should be ours and its being shaken up at the core something bad. If we loose Jetstar Distribution (they're not doing so well either) we'd have lost a cornerstone its like no ones paying attention to Black economics enough to take note of whats going on cause trust, if this carries on and starts to hack at companies like Jetstar and others we'll all regret it in the long run. Even Bodymusic in tottenham has gone all generic 'bout, 'Everybodies music'.
Will keep informed of wha gwan cause the worst is yet to come.
Any other local stores and companies closing down in the states and elsewhere? Think HMV is next, which would be good .lol. Hope other small chains and companies can ride it out.
R.I.P Reckless Records... R.I.P Fopp.
Peace
A
