Default Swahili is gangsta talk now??? - 05-01-08, 01:45 PM

Man It seems like plenty of people are jumping on the swahili tip

seems to have come from the black prison population of america speaking it so other races cant peep the converstaion but has spread over here too..

was in the gym and a guy whos fresh outta jail was tellin me dudes in there learning it too cos its "our thing"

even heard Jim jones speaking swahili ona track...

well what can I say although I dont agree with the way its been out there if it empowers people to learn there native tounge then is it a bad thing??

Great I'm sure my Cucu (Grandma) will be happy to hear that!! lol.

Swahili is spoken in many African countries particularly the eastern and southern countries. I know in Kenya Swahili seems to have taken over from the tribal languages. As Kenya is a mixed country Asians, Euro's etc they will all speak Swahili as well as there native language.....
However the indigenous population will speak their tribes language i.e Kikuyu's will speak Kikuyu etc. But the tribal languages seem to be dying out and many of the younger population can only speak Swahili as this is what is taught in schools, this annoys my Cucu no end as she thinks there wont be anyone left who can speak kikuyu....

Kiswahili is a language of commerce...developed to allow people from various bqckgrounds to engage in trade...

This is my understanding....how correct is that?

As far as jail......for some people, being among populations of whites and latinos in a non segregated situation.....is the first time they can't take for granted what their race is. Gangs are formed along racial lines and I think the Black Guerilla Family out in the west cost is Black prison gang that uses the language.

There are so many Black men incarcerated at one point or another over here that a lot of the things that are part of prison culture become a part of general Black culture at some point.

As far as the languages from before dying out, that's inevitable.....good to appreciate your culture and yourself...but to live and survive you have to be practical...learning a languge that more people in the world communicate in helps your chances to survive in this world.

No im saying that swahili is gangsta because the population who aspire to that aka prison folk rappers and their ilk are speaking it.

and if you actually read it proper im posing a question (hence the question mark)

cmon now BC I know you got your G.E.D so why you never read it properly
