Just got this 'warning' in my email from a friend, shes in Africa not sue theres surge problems in these countries as there might be else where but anyway....

Always going on about mobiles that woman, probably her propaganda war against them she could have attacked the phone by the looks of it. .lol. jks

Like the photo "evidence" of someone catching a rare dinosaur for lunch or something? lol you was denying it before you edited your post!

But there are always rare occurences in technology that happen from time to time. Obviously there was a fault somewhere that caused it happen. Otherwise, I've never heard of any other warning against using your mobile while it's charging. Those old school mobiles from the 80s were probably powerful enough to fry eggs though.

As an electrical engineer...anything is possible if the surge current gets high enough. There is usually some kind of diode to stop the voltage/current from exceeding certain levels, but diodes are only rated at certain values. If the diode is derated and then subsequently over-stressed, it could in rare instances causes a direct short.

Who really knows what quality of phones they allow to be sold in African countries. The manufacturer may have sold the top 90% of his yield to "developed nations" and the bottom 10% to African coutries where the reliability of the parts are significantly poorer.
