Question Quick question to African Americans..... - 31-01-08, 12:41 AM

I just need to know the name of an old song then I'll delete the thread.

I'm not sure how many of you have seen the film Double Jeopardy, but there's a part in the film where there's an African funeral procession taking place in New Orleans and they're playing a tune I heard many years ago (I think an old Tom & Jerry cartoon even played it once!!!) that I don't know the name of and who originally composed it.

If any of you guys can let me know who it is, that would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

It's been a while since I've seen that movie, but I think you're talking about 'St. James Infirmary Blues'. I don't know who originally wrote it, but Louis Armstrong was the first to make it popular. A gang of people have recorded it over the years from Billie Holliday and Cab Calloway to Bobby "Blue" Bland. It's considered a New Orleans classic dixieland/blues song.

Funerals in Haiti have similar parades. I guess it's the French influence
