Exactly...Hollywood and the media know exactly what images they are putting out there of Africano men.
We get confounded trying to get back to Africa. On my first trip to Africa, they asked, "Where's your passport?" I said "I have no passport...I was taken away 500 years ago; and now I'm back."

Agree.... could add to that and say the same about the middle class in general, politicians, business peoples no one wants to upset the status quo lest they miss out on 'that' market they need so much.

Perhaps it would be more accurate to say, today's blacks are constantly being pacified with the promise of fast money. There is a constant bombardment of images of black "success stories" almost exclusively in the "music industry" or sports etc. The message is clear: get rich quick..... or die trying.
Forget about school - no need to worry about qualifications. After all, hardly any of those guys on MTV cribs, with their multi million dollar homes and 7 sports cars, did well at school. They just used their "talents".
There is an upcoming generation of black kids who think they're going to "hit the big time" - without ever needing to succeed in the education system. Just one lucky break - that one, illusive record contract with a big label, is all they need. Then it's champaigne and caviar. But what many don't realise, is that the actual percentage who really make any money, is miniscule. By the time they realise they're not going to be the next 50 Cent or Thierry Henry, they are already f*cked.
Meanwhile, the Asian kids are deciding which university to go to.

lol. some of yall are working under the assumption that Lebron most likely knew what was going on in the moment and what the outcome would be.
You should know by now that most of these entertainers are merely pawns. They probably told him how to pose, how to make his face, told Giselle where she'd be standing etc.
Now if it comes out that he knew what they wanted because they told him, then that's something else alright.

I doubt that Lebron really "knew" what was afoot, either, and that's the real crime to me. That means his parents/family didn't school him about certain things, and I think that's a big mistake that a lot of BLack folks make, because we're so busy trying to "transcend" race.
THe minute he found out they were going to be posing him(a big Black man), with a white woman, his antenna should have gone up,(if he had been properly schooled by his peeps). He should have been looking for some Tomfoolery from white folks in that instance. You can set your watch by it,lol.
Reminds me of one of those young Black dudes in Georgia who went to jail for having consesual sex with a white girl who was 2 years younger than he. Her racist parents found out about it, and the girl started saying that he raped her. The jury actually convicted him because she was a virgin and there was something in the law about "causing physical bruising or damage", which he did technically because of her virgin status.
The Black kid was a star athlete and a white couple who were parents of one of his team mates had "adopted" him. After everything happened ,they were all on Oprah. Oprah asked the dude if his Black parents/family had ever told him anything about dating a white in a small rural Southern town. He said NO, they never mentioned anything about that, his BLack mother didn't make any distinction about black girls and white girls. To the white couple's credit, they DID warn him(cause they knew white folks in the area well,i'm sure). They told him to make sure if he was gonna date white girls, that it was "ok" with the parents. BTW, the white girl was interviewed by Oprah on the show and the chick referred to Black people as COLORED. A teenaged girl in this day and time referring to Black folks as colored, but this Black dude couldn't decipher that this heifer's family were likely backwoods/crackers and the ish was gonna hit the fan. HIs Black ass should have headed for the hills, just from hearing this heifer SPEAK, but we know that wasn't going to happen.....That's his parents/community'y fault. Plain and simple. THat little omission could have cost him his LIFE, and it DID cause him his freedom, for a while.
Ya'll can keep on with that head in the sand nonsense if you want to.....

Gmahogany,
I'm familiar with the story.....dude had all types of football scholarships at first....when it was all said and done, he went to Hampton.
I assign some blame to the people who raised Lebron also. dude was born in the 1980s..... and unless an older person pulled his coat to a bunch of stuff, he's gonna be walking in completely unaware of a lot of racial history.
He was born in like 83-84 and as much as we'd like people to be aware of stuff...he's still a young guy.
I've read about young Black and White South Africans speaking about aparthied like it's the "old days" and "things are different now"
hhhhahahaha
I always respect older dudes who tried to school me about stuff when I was a young guy and didn't want to hear it..

Yep, and it could have been a lot worse, the decision could have not been overturned and he could still be in jail.
It's crazy too, cause just listening to the girl speak and hearing about her family anyone with ANY knowledge of race history could have predicted it would go down like that. Apparently there was some knowledge that the girls father didn't like Black folks. That's so textbook. That's JUST the type of white girl that will go out of her way to phuck a Black guy, then when the ish hits the fan, scream rape. Her standing in the white community DEMANDS that, lol. If she let's it be known that she WILLINGLY did that, her name and reputation is mud. No white man in that community is going near her with at 10 ft pole. It's funny, cause I was just watching "To Kill a Mockingbird" on tv, yesterday.
When the chick sat up on international tv and without batting and eye and with no hesitation, told OPRAH, "my daddy don't hate coloreds", it was a wrap for me,lol.

That's just it. How would they know, if they are not told/taught? I just think it's the height of irresponsibility to allow young Black men OR Black women to run around not knowing certain things about race relations and history. The good thing is, that one way or another, some white person/persons is usually gonna school them(the hard way), before it's all said and done, whether we have enough sense to, or not.

IF they say so,lol.

In a related story...i don't know if this got a lot of press, but about 4 years ago....some young Black man in the deep south allowed himself to be photographed in his high school yearbook with a noose around his neck...and his white girlfriend holding the rope.......
true story......
When the controversy broke..his comments were along the lines of "man, that stuff y'all are talking about happened in the "Roots" days"
gonna find a link
