@Chi
I disagree on some of the things you said specifically that Nigerians prefer the cold weather...well my relatives always say to me 'this your country is too cold' when they visit
They do say the country is hot (most probably Lagos) because its too built up..too many cars with exhaust fumes...but they never mentioned prefering this weather actually thats one of the reasons people crave to go back to Nigeria....

@Melissa
No Disrespect....Guess your cousin was tying to protect her 'high yella' status...ain't that a wrap whereas the Fair Skined girls here in the UK prefer a bit of Sun that gives them a nicer healthier glow just like Afriki said(though aware she resides in the US)
I still stand by what i said..I love the sun too and take power walks while at work in order to enjoy the sun...would walk all day in the sun but would no way lie on a sunbed with cream all over me in so called 'hot climates'...maybe with a shade over my head most probably...

@ Astmartins, you obviously dont know the Nigerians I know, many of them actually do dislike the sun (I didn't say all Nigerians). They grew up around intense heat, and they dont associate good experiences with it. I know many Nigerians who prefer the cold and even rain. I found it funny, but so many have said the same thing.

In a country of over 140 mill and counting, we can only meet but a handful.......their views will vary just like ours do. Some will dislike the sun, whereas others wont.....lol

So, I was thinking about Albino animals yesterday and trying to remember if id ever seen an Albino elephant or giraffe,I know i've seen lots tigers,leopards,cheetahs etc...this condition must be particularly hard for them,epsecially as thier whole gig is hunting and being stealth-like.

Anyway,here's a youtube vid about some Albino creatures.

Oh...and here is a vid about the fantastic time Albinos are having in South Africa,as per usual,whenever there is a racial component in a youtube video,I encourage you to not bother reading the comments.

Still waiting to hear bout this carbon theory...

Africans are black due to more carbon?? really?? REALLY??

@Chi
Okay no wahala!!(no probs)...our sets of Naijjas are never on the same course are they??..lol!!
Anyways during my Aunts last trip she did mention tthe weather in London nowadays wasn't too bad that at least all you have to do is wear a Big Coat.. However say in Lagos...enough times even the Air Conditioners cannot stave off the heat especially since the power supply is dire and they have to rely on generators..though the weather went crazy in Mid March(snow and all sorts) and no sooner was she craving for the Sun...and Blue Skies

Thanks...when a thread reaches 4 pages....usually all logic and thought goes out the window because opinions are flying left and right.

just thought I'd inject some undeniable logic into the thread to keep it rooted in reality.

I didn't even know what suncreams were until i got to Europe..lol It's just that i know some Continetal Africans girls going on about wearing suncreams.....since we were on a bus stop full of white people, me thinks they were chating nonsense for the white people's benefit.

Like i said, my cousin is fair, not mixed, she didn't get sunburned back home...yet when we got here, after a few years, she started getting all red in the sun. Thats why i think the problem is rather with the environment and the type of summers we get here in Europe. It simply does not make sense that 30 plus degrees does not burn you in Africa, yet the 25 plus degrees of Europe does....maybe a resident scientist could help us here...lol

I haven't really worked this out, but maybe part of the reason why some black people may get sunburns in the West while Africans in Africa can sustain higher temperatures without getting sunburns may have to do with their level of exposure to the sun. Melanocytes, the cells which produce melanin, respond to UV exposure by increasing their activity. However, the response of these cells is not rapid enough to prevent sunburns during the initial exposure. Melanin synthesis is a really slow process and usually peaks at about 10 days after the initial exposure. Since someone living in Africa is pretty much almost always exposed to the sun the activity of their melanocytes is always at it's peak response. Whereas for another black person living in the West this activity will drop off during the cooler temperatures and will not be at it's peak response during their first initial exposure to intense heat. Hence they'll be more likely to get burned.

Alot of the prey are most likely color blind(as alot of animals are), so it probably wouldn't hinder them any more than any other animal.... now if they had a strong odor, that would be a challenge.

It's a simple theory about matter....i am at work can't go into long ting so will make it short....wait untill i can post you the chart. Oh and i wans't talking about skin colour ONLY, i was talking about the human DNA in general...it's simply misleading to define our make up simply on so called skin pigmentation ONLY.....pigmentation can change and can involve, hence one's race must be made of more tangible components rather than a skin pigmentation. Why is it that an Albino can still give birth to a full "black" child when their skin is so called lacking in pigmentation? It can only follow that one's DNA is more than the skin colour that appear on the surface.... thats what white, Asian kids are being taught, whilst our children are being taught that they are made of some pigmentation nonesense...lol....i actually learnt this years back during GCSEs, and ignored it(perhaps because it was told to us by a white teacher, who was brilliant by the way but we all thought he was talking out his ass...lol)

It could be....but i ALSO suspect that people here sometimes play with the sun like it's a joke. Even when i have missed the sun like crazy, you wouldn't catch me exposing myself in direct sunlight dressed in a bikini for a LONG time....what some call sunbathing...lol....i usually just go on about my business, fully dressed and instead of taking the bus, i'll walk.

Maybe,but a lot of "prey" are signalled to the presence of say a tiger or leopard by other creatures(monkeys etc,who act as lookouts)so if this tiger or leopard is bright white he/she is going to be a lot easier to spot than the "normal" cat whose colouring blends in with the foliage.

Im not quite sure I understand what you're saying. Obviously differences between races are based on more than just skin pigmentation, however that pigmentation IS a result of differences in melanin levels.

Other differences between the races are mainly superficial and its been found that there is more genetic variation within any one race than there is between races. Race is just a concept whereby people attempt to classify groups by the colour of their skin, but it is a concept which has failed because skin colour has very little effect on genetic makeup.

And after all that I STILL don't see where carbon comes into play. I appreciate that all organic matter (including us) is made up of Carbon, Hydrogen and Oxygen as you said, but the levels differing between the races is still alien to me.

So I await your detailed explanation....

Thanx

And to answer your question, an albino can give birth to a fully black child because the gene which causes albinism (loss of pigmentation) is recessive. If a "black" albino has children with some1 with normal pigmentation, those children will only have one copy of the albino gene, not two and therefore will look normal.
