I recently saw a film directed by the filmmaker Horace Ove about James Baldwin, the African-American writer.

In the film a man stands up and declares himself a 'White Liberal', only for Baldwin to declare that when a man says 'White liberal' he is unable to divorce himself from a white system that throws young black men in jail for (At the time) fighting for civil rights. He said 'White Liberal' was more like 'White Missionary'. Dick Gregory then stand up next to him and says "White is not a skin colour, it's an attitude, Black is not a skin colour, it's an attitude". Baldwin said the following quote "How can a man be so sure that he is white?" referring to the african blood in many white Americans families.

To what extent do you agree with the above statements?
