Thumbs down are you a tailgater - 04-07-08, 11:36 PM

i cannot stand tailgaters
its not my fault you can't stick to the speed limit. Its not my fault its a 30/40/50/60/70mph road.

the fact that your driving should mean that you are going faster than public transport.

are you a tailgater?
if yes why

if no how do you handle them.

I am not one given to 'road rage' as on the whole when I am driving I don't let a lot of the sh*t other drivers do get to me.
However, tailgating is one (brainless, moronic) antic that puts me in a near homicidal state, especially when I am driving with the kids in the car. To have some stupid a** hole latch himself (I have only ever had male tailgaters) onto my bumper makes me want to stomp on that fools head.
Still, I try to keep it together, because losing it completely and ending up in some sh*t you may regret later hardly seems worth it. So I just carry on at same speed to let the mofo know I am not going to be intimidated and end up killing myself trying to get out the way so he can pass. If he wants to get by me then let him do so when he feels ready to take a shot.

You know what I wish I had? Something connected to the brake lights where you flick a switch to make them come on suddenly as if you braked hard, but without you actually breaking at all. Just to see the fool react to the car in front seeming to brake suddenly. The shock of thinking he is going to ram into your backside may bring him to his senses....if only temporarily.

One of the most unbelievable experiences I had was when a guy on a motorbike tailgated me after I pulled out of a side road. Another car driver had let me out, But the biker had decided to ride around him (actually accelerating as he did so) then to brake suddenly as he came up on my bumper. He stayed there, gesturing at me as if I had cut him up. Then he pulled up beside me calling for me to stop so we could 'get it on'. I just ignored the fool and carried on driving normally. He then got in front of me and started swerving from side to side as if trying to put me off (still gesturing for me to get out so we could rumble). Then to my amazement he starting to brake, accelerate, brake, accelerate and so on. He was far enough in front of me for the braking not to really affect me, but I was thinking "That has to be one of the most stupid things I have seen on the road".

What did he think would happen if I rammed into him, were I close enough, after he broke like that? Believe me, I as sorely tempted to get closer, wait for his next braking and fail to brake myself......"Officer he just stopped suddenly in front of me for no apparently reason. I couldn't stop in time and sent his ass flying over the other side of the road. I know it is not my fault but I feel so bad for such a thing to happen!.......yeah right.

Respect

There are those who feel that the only way to ‘prove their own worth’ is by ‘devaluing the worth of others’. You will often find that a man who is compelled to measure his substance against the substance of another, has little of substance in the first place!

im a tailgator

I see it like this if you wanna stick to the speed limit like you have no where to be going then stay in the left lane and let us pass.

what makes it worse is when you get some people who insist on doing around 36 in a 40 with nothing infront of them....they get fashed out of the way by me ona regular

believe it or not its these types who cause accidents with their lapsy daisy carefree driving rather than boyracers and gereral speed freaks.

BP..you have a valid point, HOWEVER bullying and harrassing other drivers is also equally dangerous and out of order sir!!! and you should not do it, YOu could equally take another route, stop or just wait patiently until its safe to overtake... come on now where is YOUR responsiblity in all of this?

I dont regard it as bulling as its just my way of telling them to get out the way or drive to the speed limit atleast aslo I dont target people with children in the cars nor old people as they tend to STOP dead in the road and panic
its mainly the jonny foreiners and asians in their automatics who really dont have a clue how to drive a car in this country who get on my nerves.

IMO we (the british) hand over licences wayy to easily to these folk then how can we turn around and moan when one of these guys ploughs into some kid and he dies?

also its no coincidence that a hassive percentage of cars in london have a ding in them even the new 08 plates....it goes hand in hand with the number of forieners you got down there....sort em out and le4ts reclaim the roads for us real drivers
.

also may I add it isnt tailgating unless the car is UNDER 1 foot away from your bumper...

theres a difference between following closely and telling them to get the f**k outta your way.

Haven't been tailgated yet but unfortunatly already had my first accident (only passed my test in april), due to some idiot getting waaaay too close to my car (he was crossing in front of me). And earlier this week some idiot nearly crashed into the side of my cos he pulled straight out of a side road without looking. Luckily i reacted quickly and emergency stopped or i honestly might not be sitting here typing this. I was PISSED!

I am with BP on this one, especially..."I see it like this if you wanna stick to the speed limit like you have no where to be going then stay in the left lane and let us pass. "

In these situations I am going to be up your arse untill you get the message to move.

But saying that I only do it on the motorway or long stretch dual carriageways....Here in Brum it ain't safe to try it on a regular road, cause there are plenty out there who are just waiting for an insurance claim.

I spend a lot of time on the M6 these days and I can't believe the amount of people who want to cruise even in the outside lane....And don't even let me get started on HGV's taking up two lanes side by side.

And BP right about these types causing more accidents then us speed freaks.

Hey BP I use my lights to blind them out of the way....Although I got pulled over for that once, told the very nice policeman in my blondest way that I'd accidently flicked the light.

BTW

I hate people who hesitate at roundabouts for eons. A few months back I got caught behind one woman who waited for the length of time it takes to smoke a cig. And the other two lanes were full and no one would let me out. In the end I got out of my car and walked towards her. Seeing me coming towards her must have scared her more than the roundabout cause she shot off.

If we do not have an accurate analysis of the problem, we cannot possibly develop a good strategy to resolve it.
