I call myself African.ower
F*ck Black, F*ck British, F*ck Urban.

I don't care if it was a Roman that gave the continent its name. That continent is not only the birthplace of man, but it is also the ancestral home of every single black, af-am, afro-mex, afro-brazillian, west indian and even black british person.

How quickly some idiots forget this.

Give yourself some f*ckin pride and call yourself African. Doing so instantly binds you to the history, traumas and many achievements of all our peoples, no matter what country you currently reside in.

Im Hotep,

Nubia/Kush was not a single landmass like the countries we know today. It extended into what is now Yemen, Palestine, and even as far as West Afrika (for example, the Wolof people were part of Ancient Kush and they currently live in Senegal). That is the reason most artifacts relating to Makeda (Sheba) are found in modern-day Yemen.

I like the term Nubians! clp)

Hey HatHaruHotep,

***Long tings alert**

Here'sa few terms for you.

Nubia (n) – The name given to the continent before the continental drift at which time the land mass was known as Ganawa and proof of our existence is in the fact that you see us on every part of the planet clearly from times way before slavery, which by the way is the term that can only really apply to the Slavics the blonde haired blue eyed and the only race that is truly Caucasian. The slave trade was actually kidnap, deceit and lies but this is nothing new to us.

We often hear talk of Egypt and think of the pale Arabs you see today but we are not directed to the Nubian Kingdoms when they covered one third in today’s Egypt and 2 thirds in today’s Sudan. There were also Nubian civilizations that stretched to Ethiopia. We know through archaeology that we existed way before that but in terms of trying to make sense of our movements, I’m hoping something here is making sense. Then as we work our way back we can see that outside of our homelands we had made other lands home and travelled referring to ourselves as Moors.

Egypt (ian) – We are told about certain parts of the continent through all holy texts but remember these too are a mixture of truths and untruths men so we just need to tread carefully. The term has also referred to the Syrian Phoenicians or Hyksos light brown skinned men that ruled the land for 430 years and at one point was under direction from Poppi, before they were defeated by Thutmose I. The word is from Agyptos “burnt faces because their skin would get burnt. Relates to only one part of the continent.

Africa(n) Although it is the main term used today, Africa was originally from the Arabs who referred to it as Al Furaqa from the root word faraqa which means “to divide, separate, distinguish. In linguistics faraqa is infixed with a -t- to become Iftraqa, meaning “to fall apart. The same root is used to form the word the Perek or Pirka which the Jews use to refer to divisions in their scriptures also. At the time of it’s inegative use, the Arabs were running their ottoman slave trade and this term was used in that context. To divide and separate us once they had entered into our lands. A hierarchy of slaves existed to bring about their version of the order of things. This is also a time when Islam was given to us. It is used in a disagreeable way because Al Furqan is also the term used with regard to their holy scripture coming from the same root of faraqa meaning in this case the division of chapters, sections, good and bad e.g surat al furaqa.

Moor – Moor is the most common term used by us and those who mixed or traded with us, in our earlier travels as well as on the continent. The term has been used in later days with reference to the Arabs and Turks who mixed in with the moors through the ottoman slave trades. Moors born as a result of mixing with Arabs were also referred to sometimes as Tawny Moors. It is important for us to recognise that in terms of the laws created by those in the west we are also referred to as moors meaning that if we are to acknowledge any indigenous rights as part of this system this is what we should be using. This is reinforced by the draft declaration of rights of indigenous people. If you claim to be only indigenous to Africa then you limit the significance of our existence and contribution the events of the world. Then you had BlackaMoor which was also used to distinguish us from the pale Arabs and was commoly used in Europe to claridfy the type of people being referred to. Drop the Moor and then you have Black.

"Black" is fine with me. It encompasses Blacks from all over the world and is therefore international.

Here's my suggestion...

Instead of calling ourselves "black" in a European language like "moreno", "negro", "niger", "ater","moor", "noir",etc., how about if wekeep the name but simply use a language that is African? The primary reason is that the term "black" in the West connotes vileness.

I know that the word "kam" or "cham" has been preservedover the milleniumsin some African languages to mean "black". To this day, I believe Nigerian black soap is madewith camwood(or black wood)at its base. Therefore, instead of calling ourselves "Black", why not call ourselves"Kamitic"?

Collectively worldwide, global Africans can refer to themselves asKamitic or being Kamites...

Me personally, I have always taken to being called black...... The average African would laugh at a black American or West Indian if they said they were African and we all know its true.

This personally does not bother me because there are white "Africans" of euro decent...If you use the phrase African it can still be very vauge; Africa is a vast land. The fact that I am of African origin remains to be seen, so why call myself African American???? I refer to my self as a black American of African decent or black. Either one is fine for me.

I vote for "African" also.
