Racism exists in JA

Dear Editor,
Jamaica's population consists of over 90 per cent blacks. However, despite this numerical advantage that exists since slavery until emancipation in 1838 to independence in 1962, they still have no collective economic clout.
So having been freed from the shackles, able to vote and even occupy the highest political posts on the island, that is, prime minister, governor general, chief justice, etc, the real power brokers who control the reins of economic power are comprised largely of the descendants of our colonisers (Caucasians) or of the indentured labour force - Chinese, Indian and Jewish stock.
The black male in particular since slavery has been emasculated and so there are virtually no positive role models among African stock outside of the arena of sports or entertainment.
When the black man becomes assertive, efficient and visible, he is put down or not given any support.
Racism exists where a group has economic power and is able to have an impact on national policies or an individual's fortune without regard to democratic principles.
