Office Banter - or a hidden meaning - 07-10-07, 11:24 AM

I'm checking to see if anyone else here has experienced this.

The behaviour of white staff at time seems to bordering on racist. While minding my own business and doing my job, I hear constant comments from senoir management commenting on how black staff dress or present themselves. This would be in the way the have their hair or if they have acrylic nails.

At the same time their alot of talk of chaves, and "urban youth" that I find my self having to constantly defend.

Acouple of months back I put some colour in my hair that you could hardly notice and the white staff within the organisation made a big deal out it. Part of the reason I chose the colour was so that it would be suitable for work.

They seem to take particular offence to how we take pride in our apperence and instead of being supportive, constantly put down staff. The management here are mostly "middle aged women who are obviously jealous. The problem I have is that this behaviour has now become an accepted part of the office culture. The black staff instead of defending people when this happens, enjoy joining in.

For me, I'm looking to move but I fear for other people in the company.

Anyone else experience this?

"At the same time their alot of talk of chaves, and "urban youth" that I find my self having to constantly defend."

From what has been posted, it is not clear whether these comments have been made to you, or whether you happen to have 'overheard' them.

If they have been made to you, how do they relate to your duties or the busines of your company, and what is it that you have to "constantly defend" exactly?

If they are comments that you have 'overheard', what part of your work responsibilities or duties requires you to "constantly defend" anything related to what you have 'overheard'?

"Acouple of months back I put some colour in my hair that you could hardly notice and the white staff within the organisation made a big deal out it."

I do not understand what this means or how it relates to your duties or the business of your company. Were the "white staff within the organisation" able to explain this when you asked them?

"They seem to take particular offence to how we take pride in our apperence and instead of being supportive, constantly put down staff."

If you are concerned about what white people find offensive, I seriously suggest that you find something more important with which to concern yourself and to which to devote your energy. Here are some examples:

- the flooding of inner city African communities with hard drugs.

- the increasing Chinese / European stranglehold over African resources, particularly, but not exclusively, oil.

- the lack of support for the work of Pan African Nationalist organisations in Britian, particularly by African people who are more concerned about what white people will think if they support such organisations.

- the miseducation of African children in white supremacist British schools.

- the flood of spam from government agents that characterises message baords such as this so that they cannot be used as powerful tools for community organisation and debate.

(There are many others, but these are just a few examples)

"The management here are mostly "middle aged women who are obviously jealous."

I suggest that there is very little that you can do to prevent "middle aged women who are obviously jealous" from being "middle aged women who are obviously jealous". Focus your energy on working towards African liberation instead.

"The problem I have is that this behaviour has now become an accepted part of the office culture. The black staff instead of defending people when this happens, enjoy joining in."

Start keeping a detailed diary recording anything that you consider to be offensive abuse or behaviour directed at you. Record the time, date, what was done or said by whom, and who was present. Draw each instance of abuse to your HR or Personnel Department in writing. Obtain a copy of your company's greviance procedure, if for some reason you have not already done so.
Leave the negroes with whom you work to carry on with their coonery and minstrelry.

"For me, I'm looking to move but I fear for other people in the company."

When you move to another white supremacist company, you will witness precisely the same behaviour. Instead of fearing for "other people in the company", save your fears for the future of Africa and Africans at home and abroad if we do not begin to do the work we were told to do by The Right Excellent Marcus Mosiah Garvey 90 years ago.

Perhaps you could update us on progress in a month's time.

It is with regret..that Incognito had to be excluded, as we've had numerous complaints about his targeting of women, the language used and the vilification of women in general. we've had numerous either threatening to leave or that have left because of this.. It was our hope to try and reconcile this issue.. However we have now taken the view that it can't be reconciled and that we needed to take this sad step..

As for MGL, well the guidance is very clear that we do not tolerate the constant undermining of the Moderation team here on BNV.. If someone has a problem with the direction or actions that we have taken, then they are free to debate that with us via PM and we can either change our actions/decisions or agree to disagree... That hasn't happened and we have again sadly decided enough was enough..
