Why do some people choose to spread blatant lies about you sometimes?
is it because they have no life or simply need stuff to talk about?
Ive just found out that appently Ive been seeing a woman for over 6 months now....and to top it all off im supposed to be doing "dodgy deals" in work time
none of the above is true...but baffles me to hell to think why would someone bother to make up sooo much shit.
you ever had a rumour put out about you? if so what did you do? let it slide or confront the person?

Only the best is good enough....

kinda stating the obvious here, but malicious rumours are usually the result of jealousy, whether they envy what you have, how good you are at your job, how popular you are etc and want to damage your image/reputation.
Confrontation is risky unles you know for sure who originated the rumour. If you do know and you know for a full fact the rumours are baseless then by all means confront the person. It is your right to defend yourself. But rumours are usually circular (hence why they are said to "go round"!) which means whoever you confront will always say they heard it from so and so and didn;t start it (though doesn;t excuse them spreading it).. In the end you may just end up confronting and pissing off a whole bunch of people. thereby giving them cause to believe any future negative rumours about you.
YOU ARE NOT DEFINED BY OTHER PEOPLES\' OPINION OF YOU!! ;0)

Yes but it didn't bother me in the slightest because people who indulge in such crap usually have no life outside of work.

No not really, but people with nothing better to do will spend time in other people's business, even if they have to make sh*t up. Ignore them.

A friend of mine's line manager has been making up stories about her, and blaming her for faults in their project behind her back. She has really been down, and is looking for work elsewhere but it seems to be slow coming, so in the meantime she dreads going to work. Worst thing is her manager is fully aware of what he is doing and avoids her at all costs. My friend feels she doesnt have enough evidence to go to the unions.

Sh*t how did you cope with that shocker Vezz!!!
@FP
To be honest... you're friend is better off just getting a new job, I am noticing an epidemic of malicious bosses doing what ever they please to staff and getting away with it. My sister in law is going through something similar with her boss.

Seriously, where I used to work, speaking to people on the 'phone they had no idea....
However, when they met me
I liked to dispel the myth that Black people were uneducated and thuggish.
However, I knew there were emails sent when a member met me.....
